  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a GT Neo unit, confirming BMS communication, charge termination at rated voltage, and correct protection trip on over-discharge. The cell accepted both standard and VOOC fast charge without rejection on the second cycle.

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity defect. Under modem load or peak display brightness, the cell voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC predicts, crossing the low-voltage cutoff threshold while the reported percentage still reads high. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old, degraded cell's discharge curve and cannot immediately map the new cell's steeper voltage response. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this resets the coulomb counter baseline and the symptom clears.

VOOC fast charge not initiating after battery swap

On the first cycle after a cell replacement, the charge IC re-handshakes with the BMS on the new cell. If VOOC or SUPERVOOC negotiation fails to complete, the phone falls back to standard 5W input. This is not a fault with the adapter or cable — it is the charge IC completing its initialisation against a new BMS. Charge once at standard speed to full capacity, then reconnect with the VOOC adapter. Fast charge resumes once the charge IC has logged a complete cycle on the new cell.

The phone gets noticeably warm near the battery area during the first few charges after fitting the BLP857 — is this normal?

Yes, and it is specific to the first few charge cycles on a new cell. A fresh Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC pushes slightly more voltage to maintain the target current, generating more heat at the cell surface. This is temporary — impedance drops as the cell completes its initial cycles. If warmth persists beyond the third full charge or the phone throttles performance, check that the battery connector is fully seated and no adhesive is trapping heat against the cell.

My GT Neo will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before installation — how do I recover it?

A cell stored below 2.5V per cell triggers the BMS lockout protection, and the phone will not respond to the power button or show a charging indicator at first. Connect the phone to a charger and leave it undisturbed for 15–20 minutes — the charge IC applies a low trickle current to bring the cell voltage above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once voltage climbs above approximately 3.0V, the BMS unlocks and normal charging resumes. If there is no response after 30 minutes on a confirmed working charger, the cell has been in deep discharge too long to recover.
