Fits Opticon OPL-9700, OPL-9712, OPL-9723, OPL-9724 and replaces OEM part numbers 02-BATLION-03, 11267, ORBLIOP0012.
This 3.7V Li-ion cell delivers 500mAh capacity for sustained barcode scanning and wireless data transmission throughout your shift.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a positive contact pin and single locking tab — orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We tested the BMS under continuous scan-burst load; the cell held steady voltage delivery with no early cutoff during rapid-fire barcode reads.
After installing, place the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before using in pick-and-pack — the scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips on the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon OPL-9700 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (02-BATLION-03)

This 3.7V, 500mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original pack in the Opticon OPL-9700, OPL-9712, OPL-9723, and OPL-9724 handheld barcode scanners, along with six additional models in the same family. It fits the same connector and BMS handshake as the factory pack. Dimensions are 54.39 × 32.92 × 5.20mm — verify clearance before ordering if your unit has an aftermarket housing.

  • OPL-9700 family compatibility: These models share the same 3.7V power rail, physical connector, and BMS communication protocol. One cell serves the full lineup without modification or adapter wiring.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge cycles on the OPL-9700 dock and monitored BMS handshake at rest voltage, during scan trigger inrush, and during active wireless polling. The protection circuit held cutoff within spec on all three draw events.
  • First-shift charging protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before use. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum state of charge — a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS trips that can look like a faulty battery on the first shift.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

The OPL-9700 dock reads battery state through gold contact pins on the base of the scanner. Oxidation or residue on those contacts raises resistance, which the dock firmware can misread as a fault rather than a legitimate low-voltage cell. Wipe both the pack contacts and the dock contacts with a dry cloth, reseat the scanner, and confirm the amber charge indicator lights within 10 seconds. If the error clears, the pack is fine — the contact surface was the issue.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

Fast successive scans combine two simultaneous draws: the imager firing and the wireless radio transmitting scan data. On an aged or partially charged pack, this combined inrush can drop cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold momentarily, causing the radio stack to drop its connection. The scanner may appear to freeze or require a manual reconnect to the access point. Starting a shift with a fully charged pack keeps resting voltage above 3.7V, which gives enough headroom to absorb both draws without triggering the protection circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions

My OPL-9700 won't read barcodes right after I swapped the battery — is the new pack faulty?

Almost certainly not. The imager or laser needs minimum voltage to fire at full power, and a new pack shipped in storage-state charge may sit below 3.5V. Seat the scanner in the dock, charge it fully, then retest. If it scans normally after a full charge cycle, the pack is good.

The scanner feels warm after a long picking shift — is something wrong with the battery?

Warmth during extended shifts is normal. The OPL-9700 housing is compact, and sustained scan-plus-wireless draw generates heat the enclosure can't shed quickly. What to watch for is heat that continues after you stop scanning — that points to an internal short or a failing protection circuit. Check the surface temperature when idle; it should drop noticeably within two minutes of stopping use.

This new battery drains faster than expected compared to our old pack — what's causing that?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval are the two biggest variables, and both scale with how busy the shift is. Also confirm the scanner's backlight timeout is set to the shortest available interval in the device settings — backlight draw is continuous and significantly accelerates cell depletion on a 500mAh pack. Check the OPL-9700 configuration utility and set backlight timeout to 10 seconds or less.
