Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Opticon OPR-3101 / 3101 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (02-BATLION-12)
This is a 3.7V 1500mAh Li-ion battery for the Opticon 3101 and OPR-3101 handheld barcode scanner. It replaces OEM part 02-BATLION-12. The 3101 is a portable data collection terminal used in retail, warehouse, and logistics environments for inventory scanning and wireless data transmission.
- 3101 and OPR-3101 compatibility: Both the 3101 and OPR-3101 share the same 3.7V cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — this pack covers both variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through scan trigger and wireless radio combined-draw scenarios. The BMS held stable through repeated burst events and did not trip on inrush at low state of charge.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before starting a pick-and-pack shift. The scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first heavy-use session.
Cradle showing charging error on a new pack
A charging error on a freshly installed pack is almost always a contact resistance issue, not a fault with the cell itself. The 3101 cradle reads pack status through the dock contacts, and even light oxidation or debris on those contacts breaks the handshake. Wipe the battery contacts and the cradle pins with a dry cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until you hear it click into position. If the error clears within 30 seconds, contact resistance was the cause — no further action needed.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The 3101 draws current from two sources simultaneously during a rapid scan burst — the imager and the wireless radio. On a degraded or deeply discharged cell, that combined inrush can pull voltage below the BMS floor, causing a momentary disconnect that looks like a wireless fault. This is not a radio or firmware issue. Charge the pack to full before the shift and keep it above 30% charge during heavy scanning periods. A resting open-circuit voltage of 3.7V or above confirms the cell is not the limiting factor.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Opticon 3101 won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — laser comes on but no scan registers
The imager in the 3101 needs a minimum voltage to process and transmit scan data, and a new pack shipped in storage state may not have enough charge to sustain that threshold under load. The laser activating does not confirm the cell has enough headroom for the full decode-and-transmit cycle. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge fully before attempting to scan. Once the pack reaches a resting voltage of 3.7V or above, the imager will have sufficient power to complete a full scan burst.
The scanner gets noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous use — is that normal?
Sustained scanning combined with continuous wireless polling generates real heat inside the 3101's compact housing, and some warmth is expected. The concern is when the case becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm — that level of heat can accelerate cell degradation over repeated shifts. If the scanner is hot rather than warm, check that the housing vents are not blocked and that the unit is not stored in a confined space between scans. Allow the unit to rest in open air for 10 minutes between extended scanning sessions.
The 3101 is not lasting the full shift anymore even with this new battery — shift endurance dropped off faster than expected
Shift endurance in the 3101 depends on two simultaneous draws — scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval — not just cell capacity alone. If the wireless polling rate is set aggressively or the scanner is in a high-traffic scan environment, the 1500mAh cell will deplete faster than it would in light use. Check the wireless polling interval in the scanner's configuration utility and reduce it if the application allows. If endurance is still short after adjusting polling, measure resting voltage after a full overnight charge — it should read 4.1–4.2V; anything below 4.0V indicates the pack did not receive a complete charge cycle from the cradle.
