Fits Palm M500, M505, M515 PDAs; replaces OEM battery part numbers IA1TB12B1, ICF383461, LAB363562B, PA1371, S3261, UP383562A.
This cell delivers 3.7V at 850mAh capacity — sufficient for full-day standby and light scheduling use on original hardware.
Connector slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; polarity is marked on the device and cell body.
We ran full charge cycles on an M500 test unit; the BMS accepted voltage without fault codes and held 3.7V across the runtime envelope.
Perform a full data sync to the host computer before removing the old battery — the M500 stores open files and application state in RAM powered by the main cell, and removing the battery without syncing causes data loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Palm M500 / M505 / M515 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (IA1TB12B1)

This is a 3.7V, 850mAh Li-Polymer battery for the Palm M500, M505, and M515 personal digital assistants. It replaces OEM part IA1TB12B1 and fits the slim battery bay shared across the M500 series. Dimensions are 62.80 × 35.22 × 4.00mm — measure your original before ordering if you are unsure which Palm PDA you have.

  • M500, M505, and M515 compatibility: All three models use the same battery footprint, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. The M505 and M515 add a colour screen but draw from the same cell. One battery part number covers the full trio.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through charge and discharge cycles on an M505 unit. The BMS engaged correctly at low-voltage cutoff, and the device recognised the battery without calibration prompts.
  • Sync before you swap: Palm PDAs hold open application data and the RAM file system on main battery power. Pull the battery with unsaved data open and that data is gone. Do a full HotSync to your host computer before removing the old cell.

Why the M500 loses saved data after a battery swap

The Palm M500 series uses SRAM for active storage. SRAM is volatile — it needs continuous power to retain anything written to it. The moment the battery is removed and no backup cell is present, RAM contents are wiped. This is not a firmware bug or a faulty battery; it is a function of the hardware architecture. Sync everything to the desktop before the swap, then reinstall your applications after the new battery is seated and charged.

Palm M500 shows low battery immediately after installing a new cell

A new Li-Polymer cell ships at a storage charge — typically around 3.6V — not a full 4.2V. The Palm OS reads raw cell voltage and flags anything below its threshold as low. The device is not faulty and neither is the battery. Charge the unit fully before first use and let the voltage gauge recalibrate across one complete charge cycle. After a full charge to 4.2V, the low-battery warning clears and the indicator reads correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Palm M500 won't boot at all after fitting the new battery — just a blank screen. What's wrong?

A new Li-Polymer cell ships at storage voltage, usually around 3.6V, which can sit below the minimum the Palm boot ROM needs to initialise the display and OS. Place the unit on charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power it on. If the screen stays blank after charging, hold the reset button on the back with a stylus while connected to power. A successful boot after a hard reset at 4.2V confirms the battery is good and the unit was simply undervoltaged on first install.

My M505 drops the wireless sync connection partway through a HotSync — never happened with the old battery. What's causing it?

The M505 IR port and any connected wireless sled pull current in bursts. If the cell voltage sags during those bursts, the radio drops out mid-transfer. This happens most often when a new battery hasn't completed its first full charge cycle and its internal resistance is still settling. Charge to 4.2V, run one full charge-discharge cycle, then retry the HotSync. A stable sync at full charge confirms the cell is behaving correctly.

The battery drains much faster when I'm using the address book and calendar heavily compared to just leaving the PDA in standby. Is the battery undersized?

No — this is normal for the M500 series. The backlit display, processor activity, and frequent memory reads during active use draw several times more current than standby does. The 850mAh capacity matches the OEM specification exactly. If drain still seems excessive after a full charge cycle, check that the screen brightness setting hasn't been pushed to maximum, which is the single largest current draw on this platform. Reducing backlight level noticeably extends active use between charges.
