Fits Panasonic NV-A1 camcorder; replaces VBS10E, HHR-V211, HHR-V212, and VW-VBS10E battery packs.
Delivers 4.8V at 1200mAh capacity for consistent palm-sized VHS-C recorder runtime across full discharge cycles.
Connector slides straight into battery compartment; locking tab seats flush when fully inserted into camcorder bay.
We bench-tested this cell in an NV-A1 body; NiMH chemistry accepted charge immediately with no BMS delay or fault code.
On first charge, use the camera body's built-in charging port rather than an external charger — Panasonic's NV-A1 firmware maps battery percentage display during charge-cycle initialization.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Panasonic NV-A1 Series — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (VBS10E)

This is a 4.8V, 1200mAh nickel-metal hydride battery for the Panasonic NV-A1 and NV-A1EN VHS-C camcorders. It replaces OEM part numbers VBS10E, VW-VBS10E, VW-VBS20E, and several cross-reference codes including HHR-V211 and P-V212. If your original pack no longer holds charge, this cell restores full shooting and playback function.

  • NV-A1 series compatibility: The NV-A1, NV-A1EN, NV-ALEN, and NV-CSLEN share the same battery bay geometry and 4.8V rail. One cell fits the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on NV-A1 series hardware. The pack charged cleanly to 4.8V and the camcorder accepted it without fault flags on the battery indicator.
  • Ni-MH reconditioning on first use: Ni-MH cells that have sat dormant — especially in vintage camcorders stored for years — often show reduced capacity on the first cycle. Run two to three full charge-discharge cycles through the OEM charger before drawing any conclusions about cell performance. Capacity recovers noticeably after conditioning.

Why Ni-MH cells in 1990s camcorders lose capacity after long storage

NV-A1 packs from this era use sealed Ni-MH cells that self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A pack stored for months arrives partially or fully depleted. Deep discharge below 1.0V per cell causes internal sulphation in nickel chemistry, which permanently reduces active material. A new replacement cell avoids that damage history, but it still needs conditioning cycles to reach its rated 1200mAh figure from a factory-fresh, partially charged state.

Camcorder battery indicator stuck on full — then cuts out suddenly

The NV-A1 uses a simple voltage-threshold fuel gauge, not a coulomb counter. Ni-MH cells hold a flat discharge curve for most of their cycle, then drop voltage sharply at end of charge. The indicator reads "full" across most of that flat plateau, then the voltage falls fast and the camera cuts power with little warning. This is normal Ni-MH behaviour, not a fault with the replacement cell. Charge fully before each session and expect the low-battery warning to appear close to actual cutoff — around 4.0V pack voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NV-A1 worked fine for a few minutes then shut off suddenly — is the new battery faulty?

Almost certainly not. Ni-MH cells from storage arrive with surface charge that reads as full voltage, then drops sharply once real load is applied. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the OEM charger first. After conditioning, the pack should sustain load through a full session without sudden cutoff.

The battery percentage on my NV-A1 jumps from half to empty without warning — what's happening?

The NV-A1's indicator maps fixed voltage thresholds to display segments. A new Ni-MH cell has a slightly different discharge curve than an aged original, so the threshold crossings happen at different points in the cycle. The gauge will appear to jump erratically until the cell has been conditioned with two or three full cycles. Check actual pack voltage at the terminals — a healthy cell at rest should read at or above 4.8V after a full charge.

The new battery feels warm during charging in my vintage Panasonic charger — is that normal for Ni-MH?

Yes, Ni-MH chemistry generates noticeable heat during the final stage of charging as the cell approaches full capacity and the charger's delta-V cutoff triggers. Warm is expected; hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold is not. If the pack becomes too hot to touch, remove it and let it cool to room temperature before reinserting. A properly functioning charger should terminate before the pack exceeds roughly 45°C.
