Fits Pentax K-R, K-2, K-S1 and nine other K-series models; replaces OEM D-LI109 battery pack.
7.4V at 900mAh delivers sustained power to the imaging sensor, autofocus motor, and LCD screen throughout shooting sessions.
Connector seats into the camera battery compartment with a single locking tab; orientation is keyed to prevent reverse insertion.
We bench-tested this cell in a K-R body; BMS accepted the pack on first power-on with full charge-indicator response.
On first install, run one complete charge cycle inside the camera body before extended shooting — Pentax firmware maps capacity differently on initial BMS handshake and may show erratic percentage until the cycle completes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Pentax K-R / K-2 / K-S1 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (D-LI109)

The D-LI109 is a 7.4V, 900mAh Li-ion battery that fits the Pentax K-R, K-2, K2, K-S1, and compatible K-series DSLR bodies. It powers the imaging sensor, autofocus motor, LCD panel, and onboard processing during shooting sessions. Capacity matches the original cell specification from the product data.

  • K-series body compatibility: These Pentax bodies share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol, which is why a single D-LI109 cell works across the K-R, K-2, and K-S1 platforms without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the K-R body and a Pentax OEM charger. The BMS accepted the cell on first contact, charge termination triggered correctly at full voltage, and the battery indicator reported status without error flags.
  • First-cycle initialisation on K-series bodies: Run the first full charge from inside the camera body or an OEM Pentax charger — not a generic USB adapter. Some K-series bodies require one in-body charge cycle before the battery-remaining display maps correctly to the new cell's discharge curve.

Flash recycling slowing down mid-shoot on a new D-LI109 cell

The built-in flash on K-series bodies pulls a sharp current spike to recharge the capacitor between shots. At the tail end of a discharge cycle, cell voltage sags enough that capacitor recharge slows noticeably — this is normal behaviour tied to the discharge curve, not a faulty cell. If it happens early in a charge, check that the cell was fully charged before the session. A rested, fully charged D-LI109 should sustain consistent flash recycling through the majority of its charge.

Battery percentage jumping or reading incorrectly on the K-R display

The K-R maps its battery indicator to specific voltage thresholds calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new third-party cell can discharge along a slightly different curve, causing the indicator to skip levels or show a sudden drop. This is a display calibration issue, not a capacity fault. Running one full charge-discharge cycle through the camera body allows the BMS to recalibrate — after that, readings stabilise. If the display still jumps after two full cycles, verify resting voltage with a multimeter; a healthy cell should read between 7.2V and 8.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Pentax K-R shows a dead battery icon immediately after inserting a fully charged D-LI109 — what's happening?

The K-R's BMS runs an authentication check on first contact with a new cell. If the cell hasn't completed a charge cycle through the camera or an OEM Pentax charger, the body can reject it and show a false dead-battery warning. Remove the cell, insert it into the OEM charger until the charge indicator confirms full, then reinsert into the camera. That single charge cycle is usually enough for the BMS to accept the cell and display status correctly.

My shot count on the K-2 dropped well below what I expected — is the D-LI109 capacity too low?

Shot count per charge varies significantly depending on how the camera is used. Continuous autofocus, live view, extended LCD review, image stabilisation, and flash all draw additional current beyond what a basic shutter-press pulls. Cold ambient temperatures also reduce usable capacity from a 900mAh cell. Check your shooting conditions first — if the body runs warm during a session, that combined sensor and processor draw is cutting into available charge faster than the rated shot count assumes.

The D-LI109 drains noticeably faster when I shoot in cold weather — is the cell failing?

Cold temperatures reduce the electrochemical reaction rate inside Li-ion cells, which lowers usable capacity until the cell warms up. This is a chemistry characteristic, not a fault. Keep a spare cell in an inside jacket pocket between swaps — body heat keeps the resting cell closer to operating temperature. Once back indoors, a depleted cold-weather cell should recover close to its rated 900mAh capacity on the next full charge cycle.
