Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle with a dry cloth, reseat the battery firmly, and the charging LED should switch to steady red within 10 seconds.

During rapid barcode scanning, the PM550 draws simultaneously from the imager, the processor, and the Wi-Fi radio. This combined inrush can cause a momentary voltage sag at the cell terminals if the pack is below roughly 3.5V. The imager needs a minimum voltage at startup to fire the scan engine correctly. Put the scanner in the cradle and charge it fully before use — once the pack reaches a full charge, the imager will fire cleanly on the first scan.

The PM550 keeps dropping off the Wi-Fi network during busy scanning periods — is this the battery?

Yes, this is a battery-load interaction. When the scanner is scanning rapidly, the imager and Wi-Fi radio draw current at the same time, which creates a voltage sag at the cell. If the pack is below roughly 3.5V, the BMS may momentarily cut output to protect the cell, and that interrupts the wireless session. Keeping the pack above 50% charge during peak scanning periods eliminates the sag and keeps the connection stable.

After a full shift, the PM550 feels noticeably warm — is that normal with this battery?

Moderate warmth is expected. The PM550 housing is compact, and sustained scanning plus continuous Wi-Fi polling generates heat that has limited airflow to escape. The pack's BMS monitors cell temperature and will reduce output before reaching a damaging threshold. If the device feels hot rather than warm, or shuts off mid-shift, check that the scanner's ventilation slots on the housing are not blocked by a case or holster.
