The scanner runs noticeably shorter shifts than the old battery even though the new pack reads as fully charged — why?

Scan burst frequency and wireless polling together draw more current than most users expect from a 3.85V cell. If the device's scan trigger sensitivity or Wi-Fi polling interval changed around the same time as the battery swap, that combination — not the cell capacity — is usually the cause. Check the device's power management settings and compare the wireless poll rate to what was set on the previous unit. The PM85 feels warm near the battery bay after a long warehouse shift — is that normal?

Heat accumulates because there is no active airflow around the cell. Surface temperature up to roughly 40°C on the back panel is within normal operating range for Li-ion under this load profile.
