This 3.6V, 300mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the factory pack in Pokelis Model 55, 140, and 145 cordless handsets. It restores power to the handset so it can operate wirelessly from the base station. Swap it in when the original no longer holds a charge and the handset dies shortly after leaving the cradle.

Pokelis base stations use a voltage-detection threshold to confirm a battery is present before starting the charge cycle. A new NiMH pack that has sat in storage can drop below 3.0V, which some base units read as an open circuit rather than a low battery. The fix is to briefly short-cycle the pack — place the handset in the base for two minutes, remove it for thirty seconds, then reseat it. This nudges enough current through the cell for the base to recognise the pack and begin charging normally.

Range drops noticeably when the battery is below half charge

DECT handsets draw a short, high-current burst every time they transmit. NiMH cells at low state of charge sag in voltage under that RF transmit load, and the handset's power circuit interprets the sag as a low-battery condition and reduces transmit power. The result is a shorter usable range before the call drops or the signal breaks up. Keeping the handset docked between calls — rather than leaving it off the base for hours — prevents the cell from sitting at a partial state of charge where voltage sag is worst. If range is already reduced, a full 16-hour charge from flat typically brings the cell voltage back above the sag threshold.
