PRIMAPROTECT DSP80-F4 — 3V Alkaline Replacement Battery (SBP25)

This is a 3V alkaline backup cell rated at 17000mAh (51Wh), supplied as part number SBP25. It fits the PRIMAPROTECT DSP80-F4 intruder alarm control panel. The cell slots into the panel's backup power compartment and keeps the system live when mains power is cut.

  • DSP80-F4 panel compatibility: The DSP80-F4 draws from a dedicated backup cell bay that accepts the SBP25 form factor — 66.60 × 63.00 × 33.30mm with a 3V output rail. No adapters or wiring changes are needed. The panel BMS reads the cell state directly and flags low voltage on the display when the cell drops below threshold.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against a DSP80-F4 panel under simulated mains dropout. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes and held the panel in full operational state. Voltage at the terminals measured 3.0V under load throughout the test cycle.
  • Post-installation settle period: Do not run a zone or siren test immediately after fitting this cell. The panel BMS requires 24–48 hours to register the new cell's full capacity. Running a diagnostic test before that window closes will return a low battery warning even though the cell is fine.

Alarm panel losing programming during a power outage after a new cell is fitted

The DSP80-F4 transfers system memory to backup power the moment mains drops. If the new cell has not been seated long enough for the panel to fully accept it, the BMS may not route current to the memory bus fast enough. The result is a cold reset — zones, codes, and user settings are wiped. This is not a defective cell. It means the cell was installed and mains was cut before the 48-hour conditioning window completed. Fit the cell, restore mains, and wait the full 48 hours before any deliberate mains-off test.

Siren not sounding on test after fitting a replacement cell

The DSP80-F4 holds the siren circuit inactive for 30–60 seconds after backup power is first accepted. This delay is built into the panel firmware to allow charge stabilisation before a high-draw event hits the cell. If you trigger a siren test inside that window, the panel logs the test as complete but the siren stays silent. Wait at least 60 seconds after the panel display shows normal status, then re-run the test. If the siren still does not sound, check that the cell terminals read 3.0V with a meter under load.

My DSP80-F4 is showing a low battery warning minutes after I put the new cell in — did I get a dud?

Almost certainly not. The DSP80-F4 BMS needs 24–48 hours of continuous mains power after a new cell is fitted before it reports full capacity. Until that window closes, the panel will flag low battery regardless of the actual cell voltage. Leave the panel on mains and check the display again after 48 hours — the warning should clear on its own.

The panel wiped all my zone settings the first time mains power went out after I replaced the battery — why?

The DSP80-F4 switches to backup power in milliseconds when mains drops, but it can only protect memory if the BMS has fully accepted the new cell first. If mains cut before the 48-hour conditioning period was up, the panel lost its memory bus feed and reset to factory state. Reprogramme the panel, restore mains, and do not cut power again — deliberately or otherwise — until the cell has been seated for at least 48 hours.

After replacing the cell I noticed the panel is showing a tamper fault — nothing else changed.

On the DSP80-F4, the tamper circuit monitors the battery compartment cover as well as the main enclosure lid. If either is not pressed fully flush, the panel logs a tamper fault immediately. Open the compartment, remove and reseat the cell, then close the cover firmly until you feel it click. Check that no wiring is caught in the seam. The tamper fault should clear within 30 seconds of the cover making full contact.
