Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Qtek 9100 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (WIZA16)
This is a 3.7V, 2350mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Qtek 9100 Windows Mobile PDA phone. It replaces OEM part numbers WIZA16, 35H00062-00M, and HTC098347. Capacity is rated at 8.7Wh and the cell fits within the original 52.12 x 38.08 x 12.38mm battery bay.
- Qtek 9100 fit: The 9100 shares its battery platform with early HTC Windows Mobile hardware. The connector, cell geometry, and BMS contact layout match the original bay — no modification needed for installation.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 9100 platform. The BMS handshake completed correctly, charge termination triggered at the expected cutoff voltage, and no fault flags were logged during the test cycle.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting this cell, run one complete discharge to shutdown followed by a full uninterrupted charge before relying on the percentage readout. The 9100's fuel gauge IC was calibrated against the old cell's discharge curve — it needs one full cycle to map the new cell accurately.
Why the Qtek 9100 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The 9100 uses a coulomb-counting fuel gauge IC that builds its capacity model from previous charge and discharge data. When you swap the cell, the IC still references the old discharge curve. This causes the percentage display to read either higher or lower than actual state of charge. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge resets the learning baseline and brings the readout back into alignment with the new cell's actual capacity.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% remaining on the Qtek 9100
This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet recalibrated and the cell voltage drops below the protection threshold under load before the displayed percentage reflects it. The 9100's modem and display draw current spikes that cause a voltage sag on a newly installed cell — the BMS cuts power to protect the cell even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. Run one full calibration cycle first. If shutdowns continue after that, check that the cell contacts are fully seated, as a high-contact-resistance connection amplifies voltage sag under load and triggers cutoff earlier than expected.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Qtek 9100 powered off at around 25% and now won't turn back on — is the battery dead?
The BMS cut power when cell voltage sagged below its protection threshold under load, which is common on the first few cycles before the fuel gauge recalibrates. Connect the charger and leave it for at least 15 minutes before attempting to power on — if the cell dropped below 2.5V during the shutdown, the BMS needs a trickle current to exit lockout before normal charging resumes. Once the device shows a charging indicator, let it run to 100% without interruption. This also starts the recalibration cycle that prevents the same early-shutdown from repeating.
The battery percentage on my Qtek 9100 jumps around erratically — goes from 60% to 80% and back within minutes.
The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating against the new cell and hasn't locked onto a stable discharge curve yet. The old capacity model stored in the IC doesn't match this cell's voltage-versus-charge relationship, so the percentage reading moves as the algorithm tries to correct itself. Run one complete discharge — use the device normally until it shuts off automatically — then charge to 100% in a single session without interrupting the charge. After that cycle the percentage reading will stabilise.
My Qtek 9100 feels warm near the battery during the first charge after fitting the new cell — should I be concerned?
Mild warmth on the first charge is normal. A new high-impedance cell causes the charge IC to work slightly harder as it pushes current into a cell that hasn't been conditioned yet — internal resistance drops after the first full cycle. If the device becomes hot to the touch or the charge stops and restarts repeatedly, remove the battery and inspect the contacts for any debris or misalignment causing a poor connection. Normal first-cycle warmth resolves on its own; charge in a ventilated spot and check that the back cover is fully seated so heat can dissipate evenly.
