This is a 3.6V, 1200mAh Ni-MH battery for Radio Shack cordless phone handsets including the 23353, 23620, 23953, and 3KR600AAL series. It replaces the original pack when the handset no longer holds a charge or drops calls due to low voltage. Fits the handset directly — no modification needed.

  • 23353 / 23620 / 23953 platform fit: These models share the same 3.6V three-cell NiMH pack format and charge contact layout. The base station charges at a fixed trickle rate matched to this chemistry, so swapping to a pack with the same voltage and capacity keeps the charge cycle intact.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the base station charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge handshake without error. Voltage held steady under simulated RF transmit load — no mid-call sag or cutoff.
  • First-charge protocol for NiMH cordless packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. NiMH cells in cordless phones need this slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it leaves cells partially formed and reduces performance for the life of the pack.

Base station charge light stays off or shows error after battery swap

NiMH packs drop to around 3.0V or lower during storage. Some Radio Shack base stations use a voltage threshold to detect whether a handset is seated — if the pack is too flat, the base won't initiate charging. The fix is straightforward: seat the handset firmly, wait 10–15 minutes, then check again. Most bases start the charge cycle once the pack voltage climbs above the detection threshold, typically 3.2V.

Talk time shorter than the original battery for the first few uses

NiMH cells don't deliver full rated capacity until they've been through three to five full charge-discharge cycles. A new pack running short in the first few uses is normal — the cells are still conditioning. Run the handset until it signals low battery, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat. By cycle four or five, capacity should stabilise at or near the rated 1200mAh.

The battery is draining overnight even though the handset is sitting in the base — what's wrong?

This is almost always a seating issue, not a battery fault. If the handset isn't fully clicked into the base, the charge contacts don't close and the handset draws from the battery all night instead of the mains. Check that the handset sits flush with no gap at the bottom, and confirm the base charge light activates.
