NiMH cells sit at a suppressed voltage after months in storage — sometimes below 3.0V. The FF92 base station checks the pack voltage before committing to a charge cycle, and a flat pack can fall below its acceptance threshold. The base then shows no charge indicator or a fault light even though nothing is wrong with the battery. To recover the pack, remove it from the handset, let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes, then reinstall and reseat the handset firmly in the cradle. Most packs will begin charging normally once the contact voltage stabilises above 3.2V.

Talk time shorter than expected after replacement

NiMH cells do not deliver full rated capacity on the first cycle — this is normal chemistry behaviour, not a fault. The FF92 handset draws a light, steady current, which means shallow cycles early on can leave the cells partially conditioned. Full 1200mAh capacity typically appears after three to five complete charge and discharge cycles. Run the handset until the low-battery indicator activates, then return it to the base for a full charge — repeat this three times and talk time will reflect the rated capacity.
