Talk time shorter than expected on a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH cells don't reach full rated capacity on the first charge cycle — or the second. The electrodes need three to five full charge-discharge cycles to activate fully. During this break-in period, talk time will be noticeably shorter than the original battery at its peak. Run the handset until the low-battery warning sounds, return it to the base for a full charge, and repeat this three to five times. By cycle five, capacity should stabilise at or near the 700mAh rating.

Ni-MH batteries discharged during storage can drop below 3.0V — some base stations interpret this as a fault and refuse to begin charging. The fix is to seat the handset firmly in the base and leave it undisturbed for 30 minutes. Most RAY2419 base stations will trickle charge below the threshold voltage before switching to normal charge mode. If the error light persists after 30 minutes, remove and reseat the handset once, then confirm contact pins on both the handset and base are clean and fully touching.
