This is a 3.7V 3400mAh (12.58Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Reichert PT100 portable applanation tonometer and EPG-1446. The PT100 measures intraocular pressure in clinical settings for glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring. This cell replaces OEM part number 13851-873 directly.

This happens when the BMS samples cell voltage before the resting open-circuit voltage stabilises — typically within the first few minutes after a charge completes. Likely not dead, but the cell has self-discharged below the PT100's BMS recovery threshold, which typically sits around 2.5V. At that voltage, the BMS blocks power-on as a protection measure. Connect the charger and leave it for a full charge cycle — the charge IC will trickle-charge the cell back into the recovery window before switching to normal charge current. If the charge indicator shows activity within 30 minutes, the cell is recovering normally.
The PT100 shuts off unexpectedly mid-measurement during the first week of use — what's happening?
New Li-ion cells have elevated internal resistance in the first 5–10 cycles, which causes a sharper voltage sag under the PT100's measurement load than the BMS expects. The BMS interprets that sag as a low-cell-voltage event and cuts power. This behaviour typically resolves after 8–10 full charge-discharge cycles as the cell's internal resistance drops. Do not use the device clinically until you have completed those conditioning cycles.
The PT100 shows a self-test failure on the battery check after swapping the cell — is the replacement faulty?
This is almost always the BMS learn cycle flagging an uncalibrated cell, not a fault in the replacement itself. The PT100's self-test compares the cell's discharge curve against a stored OEM reference — a new cell won't match that profile until it has run one complete charge-discharge cycle. Charge fully to 4.2V, discharge through normal use, then recharge fully. Run the self-test again after that cycle completes.
