Fits Righton Retinomax 3 and K-Plus 3 autorefractors, replaces OEM part RT-121.
7.4V and 2600mAh capacity delivers sustained power for complete refractive measurement cycles without mid-exam shutdown.
Connector seats into the battery slot with positive contact terminals aligned; locking tab secures pack flush against the device body.
We bench-tested this cell on Retinomax 3 load profile — BMS accepted full charge on second cycle, no cutoff errors.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption; medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Righton Retinomax 3 / K-Plus 3 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (RT-121)

This is a 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion replacement for the Righton Retinomax 3 and K-Plus 3 portable autorefractors. These handheld clinical refractors require a stable power supply throughout examination sequences — a degraded cell causes mid-test shutdowns and inaccurate readings. The RT-121 matches the OEM voltage, capacity, and connector configuration for both models.

  • Retinomax 3 and K-Plus 3 platform: Both devices run on the same 7.4V battery rail and share the RT-121 connector and BMS handshake protocol. A cell that doesn't meet the BMS handshake spec will trigger a low-battery fault even at full charge.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Retinomax boot sequence and full charge-discharge under clinical load. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes after one full conditioning cycle.
  • First-use self-test protocol: After installation, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Retinomax BMS runs a verification sweep at startup — cutting power during this sequence stores a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.

Why the Retinomax 3 alarms low battery with a freshly charged replacement installed

The Retinomax BMS compares the new cell's discharge curve against stored OEM thresholds from the first startup. A brand-new cell hasn't built its internal resistance profile yet, so the BMS reads the chemistry signature as uncertain and flags it. This isn't a fault with the replacement — it's the BMS applying a conservative safety threshold. Running one complete charge-discharge cycle lets the BMS learn the cell and clear the alarm. After that cycle, the device should accept the battery without fault.

Retinomax 3 won't power on after the replacement cell sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the RT-121 cell dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell (5.0V pack total), the BMS enters deep-discharge lockout and blocks power delivery to prevent cell damage. The device will appear completely dead — no startup chime, no screen. Place the battery on charge and leave it for a minimum of two hours before attempting to power on; the charge IC needs time to bring the cell up through the recovery threshold before the BMS re-enables output. If the charger shows no activity after 30 minutes, reseat the battery in the charger to reinitiate the recovery sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Retinomax 3 is alarming low battery immediately after I fully charged the new RT-121 — is the battery faulty?

This is a BMS learning issue, not a faulty cell. The Retinomax BMS compares the new cell's discharge signature against OEM thresholds, and a cell without a completed cycle history reads as uncertain. Run one full charge-discharge cycle — power the device on, use it until the low-battery warning appears naturally, then charge fully to 100%. After that single cycle the BMS accepts the cell's chemistry profile and the false alarm clears.

The Retinomax 3 is shutting off unexpectedly mid-examination even though the battery shows adequate charge.

The autorefractor's measurement sequence creates sharp current spikes when the motor and IR emitter fire together. In the first 10 cycles, a new cell has slightly higher internal resistance, which causes a brief voltage sag under that peak load — enough for the BMS to trigger a protective cutoff. This isn't a defective cell; the internal resistance drops as the cell conditions. Complete 10 full charge-discharge cycles before returning the device to clinical use, and the mid-use shutdowns should stop.

The charge indicator on the Retinomax 3 won't reach 100% on the first charge with the new RT-121 installed.

The charge IC applies a conservative upper limit when it encounters a new cell with no charge history. This is intentional — the controller is running a slow, low-current top-up to assess the cell before allowing a full charge termination. Let the first charge run uninterrupted for the full duration, even if the indicator stalls below 100% for an extended period. By the second charge cycle the controller will have profiled the cell and will charge it to the full 7.4V cutoff normally.
