This is the IC capping input voltage as a precaution, not a failed charge. Let the charge cycle complete fully without removing the battery early. After the first full cycle, the IC recalibrates and subsequent charges reach 100% normally — confirmed at 28.8V open-circuit at full charge.

This is not a fault in the replacement — it is the controller failing to recognise the new chemistry signature yet. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle without using the unit clinically. After that cycle, the BMS updates its reference values and the alarm does not recur.

The CR6 won't power on at all after the replacement battery was sitting in storage — how do I recover it?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage, and if the pack dropped below the BMS recovery threshold (typically around 20V for a 24V pack), the controller locks out power-on as a protection measure. Place the battery in the CR6 and connect it to the charger — do not attempt to power on the device first. The charge IC will apply a trickle current to bring the pack back above the recovery floor, after which normal charging resumes. Once the charge indicator shows a full cycle complete, power-on will succeed.

The CR6 is cutting off mid-procedure after only a few minutes of use — is the new battery faulty?

Fresh Ni-MH cells have higher internal resistance in the first several cycles, which causes sharper voltage sag under the CR6's load profile. The BMS reads the sag as a depleted pack and triggers a protective cutoff before the cell is actually discharged. This behaviour resolves as the cell conditions — internal resistance drops across the first 8 to 10 full charge-discharge cycles. Run those conditioning cycles outside clinical use and confirm the pack holds above 22V under load before returning the device to procedure work.
