Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RightWay 550 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (YT404060 1S1P)

This 3.7V, 900mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the RightWay 550 GPS navigator. It fits the 550's internal bay directly, matching the OEM form factor at 60.00 x 37.50 x 4.00mm. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a charge through a full navigation session.

  • RightWay 550 fitment: The 550 runs a single-cell 3.7V nominal rail with a slim Li-Polymer pack. This cell matches that voltage rail and physical envelope exactly — the BMS in the 550 communicates charge status over the same connector pinout as the OEM unit.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the bench, confirming the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes and that charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. The 550 performs a full cold start after any complete power interruption — first fix typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent power cycles warm-start in under a minute once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the RightWay 550

At low cell voltage — typically below 3.5V — some GPS receivers reduce RF receiver sensitivity to conserve power. On the 550, this can appear as position drift or a reduced satellite count on the signal bar display. The fix is not a software setting. Keeping the cell above 3.6V under load maintains full receiver sensitivity. A degraded original cell that sags under GPS draw triggers this earlier than its reported charge level suggests.

RightWay 550 shutting off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

The 550 reads remaining capacity from a voltage curve calibrated to the original cell. After a full power removal and new cell installation, that calibration is reset and the device may cut off at 3.55V while still showing two bars of charge. To recalibrate, run two full charge and discharge cycles — charge to 4.2V, navigate until the unit shuts itself off, then charge fully again. After two cycles the fuel gauge tracks the new cell's actual curve accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RightWay 550 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes, and here is why. The 550 stores some route and POI data in RAM that depends on continuous battery power to retain its state. A full cell removal clears that volatile memory. Saved favourites written to internal flash survive the swap, but any routes that were held in active session memory will not. Re-enter critical routes after the swap and save them explicitly to flash before powering down.

The RightWay 550 is taking ten minutes to get a satellite lock after the battery replacement — something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. When the 550 loses all power, it discards its cached almanac and ephemeris data — the satellite timing tables it uses for fast fixes. Starting from zero, the receiver has to download fresh data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Park somewhere open, leave the unit powered on, and wait for the fix to complete. Every subsequent power cycle after that will lock in under a minute using the rebuilt cache.

My RightWay 550 drains noticeably faster during active turn-by-turn navigation than when it's just sitting in the mount — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously and keeps the backlit display at working brightness, which are the two largest power draws on the 550. Standby or map-browsing cuts receiver polling frequency and often dims the screen. There is no fault here — this is normal load behaviour for a 900mAh cell at 3.7V nominal. To extend time between charges on long drives, reduce screen brightness to the lowest usable level in the display settings.
