Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Falk F5 / F8 / F10 / F12 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BLP5040835007212)

This 3.7V 1200mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Falk F5, F8, F10, and F12 portable GPS navigators. It fits the flat-pack battery bay these four models share and matches the OEM connector pinout. Capacity is 1200mAh as specified by Falk for this battery slot.

  • F5, F8, F10, F12 fitment: These four Falk navigators use the same 59 × 37 × 5.80mm flat Li-Polymer cell on a shared hardware platform. The BMS handshake, connector, and voltage rail are identical across all four, so one SKU covers the entire group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the GPS platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge curve without fault flags. Voltage at full charge held at 4.18–4.20V as expected for this cell chemistry.
  • First-fix satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before driving anywhere. A full power interruption clears the GPS receiver's ephemeris data, triggering a cold start. First satellite fix can take 5–10 minutes outdoors — subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

Why the Falk F5 shuts off without warning at low battery

After a battery swap, the fuel gauge IC loses its calibration reference. The device tracks remaining charge against a stale baseline, so the low-battery indicator never triggers before the cell hits the BMS cutoff floor. The unit goes dark with no warning bar shown. Run two or three full charge-to-cutoff cycles and the fuel gauge re-learns the cell's actual capacity curve, restoring the warning threshold to its correct position.

GPS accuracy dropping when battery charge falls below 20%

Some Falk navigator firmware reduces GPS receiver sensitivity as supply voltage sags toward the low-battery threshold. This presents as position drift or a wider accuracy circle on the map — not a signal environment issue. The receiver is drawing less power and processing fewer satellite signals. Keep the cell above the 20% mark during active navigation, or connect USB power on longer routes to hold voltage steady.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Falk GPS lost all my saved routes after I replaced the battery — is that gone for good?

When the battery is fully removed, any route or POI data held in battery-backed RAM is wiped — that data does not survive a complete power loss. Data stored to internal flash (saved favourites in most Falk firmware builds) should still be there after reboot. Check the Favourites menu first; if those entries are present, only the active route session was lost. Re-enter any custom routes you need and save them explicitly to internal memory going forward.

Satellite lock is taking 5 or more minutes after fitting the new battery — was something damaged during the swap?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's cached ephemeris and almanac data, forcing a cold start from scratch. Cold start acquisition on the Falk F-series typically takes 5–10 minutes with a clear sky view. Take the unit outside, hold it level, and leave it stationary — movement during acquisition extends the time. Once the almanac is rebuilt, every subsequent warm start should lock within 60 seconds.

The Falk navigator is draining this new battery much faster during turn-by-turn navigation than it did in standby — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty — active navigation stacks the GPS receiver, display backlight, and map-rendering processor all at once, which draws significantly more current than standby. The display backlight alone can account for 40–60% of active draw on devices this size. Drop screen brightness to 50% or lower in the display settings and the drain rate will fall noticeably. If drain still seems excessive with brightness reduced, check whether live traffic or Bluetooth is active, as both add continuous background load.
