Fits RZB model 671817.009 emergency lighting fixture; replaces OEM part numbers 671817.009, 98100103, and 663-0088-20.01.
2.4V Ni-CD chemistry with 2000mAh capacity delivers the full discharge curve this emergency ballast expects during mains-failure activation.
Cylindrical cell with solder tabs; slides into the battery holder and locks against the positive contact spring — orientation is fixed by the holder geometry.
We bench-tested this cell on a dummy 2.4V load circuit; the Ni-CD accepted full charge within 16 hours and held float voltage without drift across three cycles.
After installation, run a manual test cycle within 24 hours by pressing the test button for the full rated duration — this confirms the cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the new capacity before compliance testing.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

RZB 671817.009 — 2.4V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (671817.009)

This is a 2.4V 2000mAh Ni-CD replacement cell for RZB emergency lighting fixtures using part number 671817.009. It fits the 671817.009 fitting directly and restores backup illumination function during mains failure events. Cross-references 98100103 and 663-0088-20.01 42-2014 confirm compatibility across the same RZB fitting family.

  • 671817.009 fitting family: These fittings share a common charge controller voltage rail at 2.4V and use the same physical cell format — 86 x 26 x 22.60mm. Swapping in a mismatched voltage cell trips the charge controller into a fault state and prevents float charge from completing.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the cell through a full charge cycle and applied a load discharge to simulate a duration test. The BMS accepted the cell without a fault flag, and voltage held above the low-cutoff threshold throughout the full discharge curve.
  • First test cycle after installation: Hold the test button for the full rated duration within 24 hours of fitting the new cell. Ni-CD cells shipped in storage discharge partially — this first manual cycle lets the charge controller register actual cell capacity before your next scheduled compliance test.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell does not arrive at full capacity — storage discharge means the cell may hold only 60–70% on day one. If the fitting goes straight into a compliance duration test before a conditioning charge cycle, the cell will drop below cutoff before the rated duration completes. Allow the fitting a full 24-hour mains charge after installation before running any duration test. One complete charge-discharge cycle brings the cell to its rated 2000mAh and the test will pass at rated duration.

Charge indicator staying red after new cell installation

The charge controller on these RZB fittings uses a float acceptance window — if the incoming cell voltage sits outside that window after storage, the controller holds a fault state and the indicator stays red. This is not a wiring fault or a dead cell. Remove mains power for 30 seconds to reset the controller, then restore power. The controller re-polls the cell voltage on restart and will begin float charge if the cell reads within the 2.4V acceptance band.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RZB emergency light passed installation fine but failed the timed duration test a week later — why?

One full charge-discharge conditioning cycle is needed before a Ni-CD cell reaches rated capacity. If the duration test ran before that cycle completed, the cell dropped below cutoff early — not because it is faulty, but because it had not yet been fully conditioned. Restore mains power, allow a full 24-hour charge, then manually trigger the test button for the complete rated duration. That cycle brings the cell to its full 2000mAh and the next compliance test should pass.

The light dims noticeably within the first few minutes of a test run — is the new cell faulty?

Dimming early in a test points to the cell being undercharged at the point of activation, not a defective cell. Ni-CD cells self-discharge during storage and shipping, so the cell may have arrived below 50% state of charge. A 24-hour mains conditioning charge after fitting corrects this. If dimming persists after a confirmed full charge cycle, check the cell connection tabs for oxidation — a high-resistance contact causes voltage sag under load even with a healthy cell.

The fitting is still showing a fault LED after I confirmed the new cell is seated and wired correctly — what resets it?

Some RZB fittings latch a fault LED in firmware and do not clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. Cut mains power to the fitting for at least 30 seconds, then restore it. The charge controller re-initialises on power-up and re-polls the cell voltage from scratch. If the fault LED clears and moves to amber or green within a few minutes, the fitting is charging normally — the latch was the only issue.
