Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

DOTLUX EXITflip 8H — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (5527)
This 3.7V, 3350mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original backup battery in the DOTLUX EXITflip 8H emergency lighting unit (Part No 5527 / 5528). It also fits the EXITflip 3H Cinema and panel-mount variants 5508-060360 and 5509-060360. Restoring this cell brings the fitting back to full mains-failure backup capability.
- EXITflip series compatibility: The 8H and 3H Cinema share the same single-cell 3.7V architecture and charge controller circuit. Both fittings use the same battery bay dimensions (68.00 × 18.50 × 18.50mm) and connector pinout, so one cell covers the full range listed above.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on the EXITflip charge board and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell at the correct float voltage. The charge controller advanced from red to green within the expected charge window and the mains-failure relay triggered correctly on test.
- First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This lets the charge controller register the new cell's actual capacity before your next scheduled compliance inspection — skipping this step can cause the fitting to log a shorter backup duration than the cell can actually deliver.
Charge indicator staying red after fitting the new cell
A replacement cell shipped from storage typically rests at 3.4–3.5V — just below the EXITflip charge controller's float acceptance window. The controller sees that voltage as outside normal range and holds the red fault indicator rather than beginning the charge cycle. Leave the fitting on mains power undisturbed for two to four hours. Once the cell voltage climbs past approximately 3.6V, the controller re-enters normal charge mode and the indicator advances to green.
Emergency light dims and cuts short during a duration test
This happens when the fitting is tested before the new cell has completed its first full charge. A partially charged 3350mAh cell delivers noticeably less usable capacity under the constant LED load, so the light dims or the fitting trips its low-voltage cutoff before the rated duration is reached. The fix is straightforward: allow a full 24-hour charge on mains power before running any duration test. After that conditioning cycle, cell output stabilises at the full 12.4Wh and the fitting will complete its rated test duration without dimming.

Frequently Asked Questions
My EXITflip still shows a fault LED after I've installed the new battery and confirmed it's seated correctly — what's wrong?
Some EXITflip fittings latch a fault condition in firmware and won't clear it automatically when a new cell is installed. The fault LED stays on even though the new cell is good. Disconnect mains power completely for 30 seconds, then restore it — this forces a controller reset and allows the fitting to re-evaluate the cell from scratch. If the indicator still doesn't advance to green within four hours of mains-on, check the cell resting voltage with a multimeter; it should read at least 3.5V before the controller will begin charging.
The replacement battery looks fine but the fitting is swollen around the battery bay — is that a cell issue or a fitting issue?
Swelling at the battery bay almost always points to overcharge damage from years of continuous trickle charge inside a fitting that runs warm. The charge controller on older EXITflip units can hold a slightly elevated float voltage when the ambient temperature in the ceiling void is high, which stresses the cell over time. Before fitting the new cell, inspect the charge board for discolouration or any sign of heat damage near the charge regulation components. If the board looks clean and the bay dimensions are still within spec (68.00 × 18.50 × 18.50mm clearance), the new cell will seat correctly — but consider whether the fitting location runs consistently hot, as that shortens any Li-ion cell's service life.
The EXITflip passed its duration test after replacement but failed the same test three months later — why would capacity drop that quickly?
Shallow cycling is the most common cause. If the fitting is tested frequently with very short test presses rather than full-duration runs, the cell never discharges deeply enough for the charge controller to recalibrate its capacity reading, and the controller begins cutting off too early. Run one full manual test — hold the button for the complete rated duration — then allow a full 24-hour recharge on mains before the next compliance test. That full cycle resets the controller's reference point and the fitting should return to its rated backup duration.
