Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Safescan 6185 / 6165 G3 / 6175 — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (LB-205)
This 7.4V, 1200mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original LB-205 (also listed as 131-0477) in the Safescan 6185, 6165 G3, and 6175 currency authentication terminals. These are compact countertop units used by retailers and financial institutions to verify banknote denominations and detect counterfeits. Dimensions are 61.61 × 37.00 × 10.25mm — check yours before ordering.
- 6185, 6165 G3, and 6175 compatibility: All three models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The LB-205 part number covers the full range — no variant-specific firmware negotiation required at the cell level.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the Safescan boot sequence and ran repeated scan-and-verify loops. The BMS accepted the handshake cleanly on first power-up and held voltage through sustained authentication workloads without tripping overcurrent protection.
- First-use calibration on currency terminals: After installation, complete at least one full power cycle — boot the unit, run a transaction sequence, then allow it to charge back to full. The terminal maps cell capacity during live operation, and skipping this step can leave the charge indicator reporting inaccurate levels for the first few sessions.
Why the Safescan 6185 reboots mid-verification after a battery swap
The 6185 fires UV, infrared, and magnetic sensors simultaneously during a note scan. That combined draw can spike current sharply enough to trigger the BMS overcurrent cutoff on a new cell that hasn't completed its first full charge cycle. The BMS interprets the spike as a fault and cuts output, which the terminal reads as a power failure and reboots. Charge the replacement fully before the first authentication run — the BMS relaxes its current threshold once it registers a complete charge cycle. If reboots continue after that, check the terminal's power contacts for oxidation.
Terminal stuck on boot screen and not completing startup sequence
The Safescan 6185 runs a self-check at startup that pulls a sustained current load — if the new battery's BMS hasn't yet registered a valid charge state, it may cut output partway through that sequence and leave the terminal frozen on the boot screen. This is a BMS initialisation issue, not a fault with the terminal itself. Connect the unit to mains power and allow the battery to charge fully without powering the terminal on. Once at full charge, boot with mains still connected — the terminal should complete the startup sequence at 8.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charge indicator on my Safescan 6185 has been stuck at 99% for over an hour — is the battery defective?
It's not defective. New Li-Polymer cells enter a top-off phase near full charge where the charge IC trickles current slowly and the indicator barely moves. This is normal behaviour for the LB-205 cell chemistry. Leave it on charge until the indicator completes — it typically steps to 100% once the charge IC exits top-off mode and confirms cell voltage has stabilised at 8.4V.
My Safescan 6185 sat unused in a stockroom for several months and now won't power on at all — even on mains.
Extended storage without a maintenance charge can push a Li-Polymer cell below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 2.5V per cell, or around 5.0V for the 7.4V pack. At that voltage, the BMS locks output to prevent damage and the terminal shows no response. Connect the unit to mains and leave it for 60–90 minutes without pressing the power button — some charge ICs include a recovery trickle mode that slowly brings the cell back above the lockout threshold. If the terminal still shows no response after that period, the cell has likely deep-discharged beyond recovery and needs replacement.
My 6185 feels noticeably warm during a heavy cash-counting session — is that the battery or the terminal?
It's both, but the battery is the larger contributor. The 6185 runs its UV lamp, sensor array, and display simultaneously during counting, and the LB-205's 1200mAh cell is a compact pack — sustained high draw generates heat as internal resistance rises under load. Warmth during active use is expected and not a fault indicator. If the terminal becomes hot to the touch or shuts down, let it cool for five minutes and check that the battery contacts are clean and seated flush — a poor contact forces the cell to work harder and accelerates heat buildup.
