This is a 3.85V, 3000mAh Li-Polymer battery for the Samsung Galaxy A8 2018 and its variants, including the SM-A530 and SM-A530N. It replaces the original EB-BA530ABE cell when the existing battery no longer holds a charge or causes unexpected shutdowns. Fits Galaxy A8 2018 TD-LTE models as well.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity fault. A new cell with a slightly different discharge curve can reach the modem's minimum voltage threshold while the fuel gauge still reads 20–30%. The phone cuts power to protect the baseband processor even though the displayed percentage says otherwise. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge to 100% uninterrupted — this resets the coulomb counter reference points and corrects the cliff.

Phone warm near the battery bay during the first charge

A new Li-Polymer cell has higher internal impedance than a broken-in one. During the first charge, the charge IC pushes current into a higher-resistance cell, and that resistance converts some energy to heat. This is normal for the first one to two cycles and drops off as the cell conditions. If the device is hot to the touch — not just warm — at any point above 3.85V input, stop charging and check that the battery connector is fully seated.

My Galaxy A8 2018 keeps shutting off at around 25% after I put in the new battery — is the cell faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC on the SM-A530 calibrates itself to the discharge curve of the original cell — when you swap in a new one, the reference data is off and the phone misreads voltage under screen or modem load. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the coulomb counter will resync. If the shutdown persists past three full cycles, check that the cell connector is pressed fully into the socket — a partial connection raises contact resistance and drops voltage sharply under load.

Fast charging stopped working after I replaced the battery on my A8 2018 — now it only charges slowly.

This is common on the first cycle after a cell swap. The charge IC on the SM-A530 uses a handshake with the BMS to confirm cell parameters before it allows high-current fast charging — on a new cell, that handshake sometimes fails on the first cycle and the IC falls back to standard 5V input. Charge the phone fully at standard speed, then unplug and replug the USB-C cable. On the second cycle, fast charging typically resumes. If it does not, try a different fast-charge-rated cable, as cable resistance can prevent the USB-PD negotiation from completing.

The battery percentage on my A8 2018 jumps around erratically after the swap — goes from 60% to 45% in seconds.

Erratic percentage readings after a cell swap point to the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar discharge curve. The SM-A530 uses a coulomb counter that was last mapped to the degraded original cell — the new cell's voltage response doesn't match those stored reference points.
