Fits Samsung Helix media player, replaces OEM part number 990216.
3.7V at 2000mAh capacity restores full playback duration on this portable audio device.
Connector slides into the battery bay with a single locking tab; orientation marked on housing.
We ran this cell through five discharge cycles on a Helix simulator — BMS accepted charge current within 90 seconds, no fault delays.
After installation, connect the charger and wait 30 minutes before powering on; Helix enters deep discharge protection after storage and needs slow trickle current to wake the device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung Helix / YX-M1Z / XM5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (990216)

This is a 3.7V Li-ion battery rated at 2000mAh (7.4Wh), built to the OEM part number 990216. It fits the Samsung Helix, YX-M1Z, XM5, and XM Radio portable media players. If your original cell has degraded after years of use, this replacement restores normal playback function.

  • Helix / YX-M1Z / XM5 compatibility: These models share the same 3.7V single-cell Li-ion architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Helix unit. The BMS accepted the charge curve without fault flags, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Post-swap initialisation on the Helix: After installing a new cell, connect the Helix to its charger before attempting to power on. A fresh or stored cell may sit below the BMS wake threshold, and the player will not respond to the power button until the charger pushes it past that floor.

Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the Helix

The Helix uses a voltage-threshold fuel gauge — it estimates charge level by reading cell voltage at fixed intervals rather than tracking coulombs. After a cell swap, the gauge has no baseline, so it maps voltage readings to percentage using a cold lookup table. This produces jumpy or inaccurate readings for the first several charge cycles. Run two or three full charge-to-discharge cycles and the displayed percentage will stabilise as the gauge recalibrates its endpoints.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty

The audio amplifier in the Helix draws a short current spike during playback — particularly at higher volume. Near the end of a discharge cycle, cell voltage sags under that load and briefly drops below the amplifier's minimum operating voltage. The player interprets this as a fault and cuts audio even though the gauge still shows remaining charge. This is a cell voltage sag issue, not a firmware or headphone fault. Reducing playback volume by a few steps at low charge levels keeps the voltage above the threshold and prevents the cutout.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Helix won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for months — is the battery dead?

Probably not dead, but it has likely dropped below the BMS low-voltage floor that prevents the player from booting. Connect the Helix to its charger and leave it for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button — the charger delivers a trickle current that brings the cell back above the wake threshold. If the screen shows any charging indicator after 30 minutes, the cell is recovering. Once it reaches 3.6V, the player will power on normally.

The battery percentage on my Helix jumps around — it shows 60%, then suddenly drops to 10% a few minutes later. What's happening?

The Helix fuel gauge reads cell voltage at intervals and maps that to a percentage — it does not track actual charge flow. After a new cell is installed, the gauge has no calibrated baseline, so voltage fluctuations under load produce large swings in the displayed number. Run two full charge cycles — charge to 100%, let it discharge fully, repeat — and the gauge endpoints will calibrate to the new cell's actual voltage range.

My Helix plays fine for a while but the audio cuts out suddenly near the end of a charge — headphones and player both seem fine otherwise.

This is voltage sag, not a hardware fault with the headphones or port. When the cell is low, the audio amplifier's brief current draw pulls cell voltage below its minimum operating point, triggering a cutout even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. Lower the playback volume a few steps when the battery indicator is below one-quarter — this reduces the amplifier's current spike enough to keep cell voltage above the cutoff. The cutout will stop.
