Fits Samsung Stratosphere i405 with OEM part numbers EB505165YZ, EB505165YZBSTD, EB505165YZBS.
3.7V lithium-ion cell delivers 1850mAh capacity for full processor and display runtime on the slider platform.
Connector seats into the original battery slot with no modification; locking tab aligns vertically on left edge.
We bench-tested the BMS against the Stratosphere fuel gauge IC — cell accepted charge without lockout, voltage curve stable under load.
On first charge cycle, let the phone fully discharge and recharge without interruption so the fuel gauge recalibrates to this cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung Stratosphere i405 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EB505165YZ)

This is a 3.7V, 1850mAh Li-ion cell that replaces the original EB505165YZ battery in the Samsung Stratosphere i405 slider smartphone. It fits the SCH-i405, SCH-i405U, and Stratosphere 4G variants. The battery slots into the rear compartment and connects via the original three-contact terminal.

  • Stratosphere i405 and SCH-i405U compatibility: These variants share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pitch, and 3.7V nominal voltage rail. The BMS handshake on each model communicates through the same three-pin arrangement, so one cell covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the SCH-i405 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without triggering thermal cutoff or an authentication fault, and charge termination occurred cleanly at 4.2V.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% before using the phone normally. The Stratosphere's fuel gauge IC maps its coulomb counter to the new cell's discharge curve during this first full cycle — skipping it causes the percentage readout to drift.

Why the Stratosphere i405 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The i405 uses a fuel gauge IC that builds its charge model from the discharge curve of whichever cell was last fully cycled. When a new cell goes in, the IC still references the old cell's curve — which has different internal resistance and capacity characteristics. The percentage display drifts or stalls because the coulomb counter is feeding data into the wrong model. One complete discharge-to-shutdown cycle followed by an uninterrupted full charge forces the IC to rebuild its reference curve against the new cell. After that single cycle, percentage reporting stabilises.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the modem radio or screen backlight draws a current spike that the cell cannot sustain at that state of charge — the terminal voltage collapses below the BMS cutoff threshold momentarily, and the phone shuts down even though the gauge shows charge remaining. It is a voltage-sag symptom, not a capacity fault. A cell that has not been calibrated amplifies the problem because the gauge allows discharge into a voltage range where sag becomes severe. Run the fuel gauge calibration cycle first; if shutdowns continue, check that terminal voltage under load stays above 3.4V using a battery tester before reinstalling.

Frequently Asked Questions

The phone powered on fine after I put the new battery in, but now it won't turn on after sitting unused for two weeks — what happened?

The EB505165YZ cell, like all Li-ion cells, self-discharges during storage. If the Stratosphere sat long enough for the cell to drop below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage and the phone will not respond to the power button. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC needs to trickle current into the cell to bring it above the BMS recovery threshold, typically around 2.9V, before normal charging resumes.

The battery percentage jumps from 45% to 12% instantly while I'm using the phone — is the cell faulty?

That jump is the fuel gauge IC losing confidence in its state-of-charge estimate, not a defective cell. After a replacement, the coulomb counter is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve, so it misreads the voltage-to-capacity relationship at mid-charge levels where the Li-ion curve is flattest. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — this forces the IC to re-map the curve against the new cell. If the jumping persists after two full cycles, verify the battery contacts on the phone are clean and seated flat.

Fast charging stopped working after I put this battery in — the phone only trickle charges now — how do I fix it?

On the first cycle with a new cell, the Stratosphere's charge IC can default to a low-current preconditioning mode because it detects elevated internal impedance on the fresh cell. This is a protective behaviour, not a fault. Unplug the charger, power the phone off completely, then reconnect to the original Samsung wall adapter — not a third-party USB-C adapter or PC port. The charge IC re-evaluates the cell on reconnection and, once it reads impedance within normal range, steps up to the standard charge current. If the phone still trickle charges after a power-off reconnect, check that you are using a 5V/1A or 5V/2A Samsung-rated adapter.
