Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Samsung VP-HMX10 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (IA-BP85ST)
This is a 7.4V, 850mAh Li-ion replacement for the Samsung IA-BP85ST battery pack. It fits the VP-HMX10, SC-HMX10A, SC-MX10R, VP-MX10AU, and 17 additional Samsung compact camcorder models. Direct swap for a degraded original cell that no longer holds usable charge during recording or playback.
- VP-HMX10 and SC-MX10 series fit: These models share a common 7.4V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol — which is why one SKU covers the full range. The cell dimensions (39.50 × 39.10 × 13.30mm) match the cavity exactly, so the door closes without force.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the VP-HMX10 body. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, charge termination triggered cleanly at full capacity, and the battery-remaining indicator tracked consistently through discharge.
- First-use charge cycle on HMX-series bodies: Run the first full charge inside the camera body rather than a standalone charger. The HMX-series BMS maps voltage thresholds to the display indicator during an in-body charge — skipping this step can cause the battery bar to read full and then drop sharply mid-session.
Why the VP-HMX10 shows a dead battery icon on a partially charged replacement cell
The HMX10 body uses a voltage-curve map stored in firmware to estimate remaining charge. A new Li-ion cell has a slightly different resting voltage profile than a worn original, so the camera can misread the state of charge on first use. The indicator may show empty even when the cell is at 60–70% capacity. One full in-body charge cycle recalibrates the map and resolves the mismatch. After that cycle, the display tracks accurately through a normal discharge.
Battery percentage jumping erratically during recording
This happens when the camera's fuel gauge hasn't matched the new cell's discharge curve yet. The VP-HMX10 draws variable current — higher during active recording, lower during standby — and the indicator can spike or drop when the firmware references stale threshold data. It is not a fault with the cell itself. Charge the battery fully via the camera body, run it down to auto-shutoff, then charge again fully. After two complete cycles the percentage reading stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VP-HMX10 shows "no battery" or won't recognise the new IA-BP85ST — what's wrong?
The HMX10 BMS runs an authentication handshake on first insertion, and a new cell can fail that check if it was shipped at storage charge (around 3.7V per cell). Remove the battery, reinsert it firmly until the door latches, then place the camera on charge via the body for a full cycle. If the camera still won't acknowledge it, connect via the OEM charger first to bring the cell above 7.0V total, then reinsert — that voltage level clears the handshake fault on most HMX-series bodies.
The battery percentage on my SC-HMX10A drops from 100% to 20% almost instantly after I start recording — is the cell defective?
It is not a cell fault. The SC-HMX10A maps its display to voltage thresholds calibrated against a used original cell, so a new cell's flatter discharge curve reads as a sudden drop when current draw increases at the start of recording. Run two full charge-to-auto-shutoff cycles inside the camera body. After the second cycle the firmware recalibrates its thresholds against the new cell's actual curve and the percentage steps down gradually as expected.
My VP-MX10AU records fine indoors but the battery cuts out much faster when shooting outside in cold weather — why?
Li-ion cells lose usable capacity as temperature drops because ion mobility through the electrolyte slows, raising internal resistance and causing the cell voltage to sag under load. The VP-MX10AU's BMS triggers a low-voltage cutoff when the pack drops below approximately 6.0V — in cold air that threshold is hit sooner than the capacity rating implies. Keep the camera inside a jacket pocket between takes to hold the battery above 10°C. Warming the cell back to room temperature recovers most of the lost capacity.
