Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Schiller PT-160 / DEFIGARD 4000 — 12V Sealed Lead Acid Replacement Battery (NP2.3-12FR)
This is a 12V, 2300mAh sealed lead-acid replacement battery for the Schiller PT-160 portable defibrillator and DEFIGARD 4000 series. It also fits the Argus LCM and several additional Schiller medical devices that share the same OEM cell spec. Voltage and capacity match the NP2.3-12FR / B10665 / 0997-00-0262 original.
- PT-160 and DEFIGARD 4000 platform compatibility: Both devices run the same 12V sealed lead-acid rail with identical connector and BMS handshake requirements. The shared cell format across this platform means one replacement cell covers the PT-160, DEFIGARD 4000, and Argus LCM without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, hold, and load discharge on the PT-160 platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first insertion, completed charge without flagging a fault, and delivered stable voltage through simulated defibrillator load draws.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. Schiller defibrillators run a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power mid-cycle triggers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
Why the PT-160 flags a battery fault after a confirmed full charge
The PT-160's charge IC applies a conservative acceptance threshold calibrated to a broken-in OEM cell. A fresh sealed lead-acid cell has slightly higher internal resistance than a conditioned one, which can push the measured voltage just below the device's pass threshold on the first cycle. This does not mean the cell is faulty. Run one full charge-discharge cycle before treating any fault indicator as genuine. After that cycle, internal resistance drops and the device BMS reads the cell as within spec.
Device will not power on after battery sat in storage
Sealed lead-acid cells self-discharge over time, and if voltage drops below approximately 10.5V, the Schiller BMS enters a protection state and refuses to boot. The fix is a slow pre-charge: connect to a compatible SLA charger set to 12V trickle mode and leave it for at least four hours before attempting power-on. Once cell voltage recovers above 11V, the BMS releases and the device boots normally. Do not attempt a fast charge on a deeply discharged SLA cell — it stresses the plates and may trigger a permanent fault.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PT-160 is showing a low battery alarm right after I installed this new battery and charged it fully — is the cell bad?
The cell is almost certainly fine. The PT-160's BMS sets its pass threshold based on a conditioned cell's charge acceptance profile, and a brand-new sealed lead-acid cell reads slightly outside that window on the first cycle. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before trusting any alarm. After that break-in cycle, the internal resistance stabilises and the device stops flagging the fault.
My DEFIGARD 4000 shut off unexpectedly mid-use after I swapped in the new battery — what caused it?
Schiller defibrillators apply a high-current load profile during operation, and new SLA cells stress harder in their first ten cycles than a conditioned cell does. If cell voltage sags briefly under that load, the BMS hits its undervoltage cutoff and shuts the device down as a protective measure. Charge the battery fully, complete at least two full charge-discharge cycles before clinical use, and confirm resting voltage reads above 12.6V before deployment.
The charge indicator on my Schiller device never reached 100% on the first charge with this replacement battery — should I be concerned?
No — this is normal behaviour on the first charge. Schiller's charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it detects a new cell's higher impedance, which extends charge time and can stall the indicator short of 100%. Let the charger run until it switches to float mode on its own without disconnecting it early. On the second charge, the indicator will behave normally once the cell has been through one full cycle.
