Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Schneider CP900 / CP900AM / CHS900 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This 3.6V, 750mAh Ni-MH battery replaces the handset battery in the Schneider CP900, CP900AM, and CHS900 cordless DECT phones. It restores talk time and standby capacity to handsets where the original cell has degraded. Dimensions are 50.56 × 49.73 × 6.37mm — verify against your existing pack before fitting.
- CP900 / CP900AM / CHS900 fitment: These three handsets share the same battery bay dimensions, voltage rail, and connector orientation, which is why a single cell covers all three. The NiMH chemistry matches the charge current the base station delivers — swapping to Li-ion would overcharge and damage the handset.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the CP900 platform. The base station accepted the battery without error on the first seating, and the BMS held voltage within the expected NiMH flat discharge curve throughout the test.
- First charge on cordless NiMH packs: After fitting, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before the first call. NiMH cells shipped in a partially discharged state — a slow initial charge lets each cell in the pack reach equal capacity, which directly affects how much talk time you get from cycle one onward.
Talk time shorter than original battery after replacement
NiMH cells do not hit rated capacity on the first cycle — or the second. The electrochemical structure needs three to five full charge-discharge cycles before the cell delivers its full 750mAh. If your CP900 handset feels like it runs out faster than the old battery did at its best, that is the expected break-in behaviour, not a fault. Run the handset down until it beeps low, then return it to the base for a full charge — repeat this three to five times and talk time will stabilise.
Base station charge light not coming on after fitting new battery
NiMH cells lose voltage during storage, and if the pack voltage drops low enough, the CP900 base station's charge circuit may not recognise it as a valid battery. The base expects to see a minimum voltage before it begins the charge cycle. Remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, then reseat it firmly — a clean contact seating is sometimes all it takes. If the charge light still does not come on, check that the battery terminals are clean and that the handset clicks fully into the cradle; a partial connection reads as no battery to the base.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Schneider CP900 handset drains completely overnight even when it's sitting in the base — is the battery faulty?
A new NiMH battery draining overnight while docked usually points to the handset not making full contact with the base charging pins, not a fault in the cell itself. Even a slight tilt in the cradle breaks the charge circuit, and the handset draws standby current with no charge coming in. Remove the handset, clean the gold charging contacts on both the handset and base with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset until you hear or feel it click into place. The charge indicator light on the base should confirm contact within a few seconds of reseating.
The CP900 handset is losing range since I swapped the battery — calls cut out further from the base than before.
Range drop after a battery swap on DECT handsets is almost always a voltage sag issue under RF load. When the handset transmits, it draws a short burst of current — if the NiMH cell has not completed its break-in cycles, its internal resistance is still high enough that voltage briefly sags, and the transmit power drops with it. This looks like reduced range but is not a hardware fault. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles on the CP900 to condition the pack, and check that the open-circuit voltage reads at or above 3.6V before testing range again.
My Schneider CP900 lost its pairing with the base after I changed the battery — how do I get it talking to the base again?
Some DECT handsets store pairing data in volatile memory that resets when power is fully removed, which is exactly what happens during a battery swap. The CP900 handset will need to be re-registered to the base. With the base powered on and the new battery fitted, hold the handset's paging or registration button (check the back of the base unit) until the handset searches for and locates the base — this typically takes under 30 seconds. Refer to page 10–12 of the CP900 user manual for the exact registration key sequence if the first attempt does not complete.
