Fits Shark SV769TD stick vacuum and replaces OEM part number XB768.
16.8V and 2000mAh Ni-MH cell restores motor power to original specification after normal capacity loss.
Battery slides into the grip-mounted cartridge slot with a single locking tab on the left side.
We bench-tested this pack on the SV769TD motor load — BMS accepted the charge curve without early cutoff and held voltage steady under sustained suction draw.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously after reaching full charge — Ni-MH packs on trickle charge develop capacity fade faster than those charged only when depleted and then removed.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Shark SV769TD Series — 16.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (XB768)

This is a 16.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Shark SV769TD cordless stick vacuum. It also fits the SV769, SV769Q, and SV90Z models. When suction drops off or the original pack no longer holds a charge, this cell restores the vacuum to working condition without replacing the whole unit.

  • SV769 and SV90Z platform fit: These models share the same 16.8V battery bay, connector pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers all of them without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on SV769-series hardware. The BMS responded correctly to the charger signal, reached cutoff voltage cleanly, and held steady voltage under continuous motor load.
  • Dock charging habit on stick vacuums: Do not leave the SV769TD sitting on the wall dock permanently. Shark's dock delivers a trickle current when the pack is full, and Ni-MH cells lose capacity faster under continuous trickle than they do from normal use. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

The SV769TD motor draws more current when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter or a hair-wrapped brush roll pushes the draw above the cell's rated discharge rate. The BMS responds by pulling voltage down to protect the cell, which the vacuum reads as low power and reduces motor speed. The indicator light is tied to cell voltage, not charge percentage, so it lags behind what the motor is actually doing. Clear the filter and brush roll first — if suction recovers immediately, the cell is not the fault.

Motor cuts out for a few seconds, then restarts on its own

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. It happens most often when the vacuum is held flat against thick carpet or when the nozzle gets sealed by debris — sustained restricted suction spikes the motor's current draw beyond the trip threshold. The BMS shuts the cell off, waits for current to drop, then re-enables it. The fix is to clear the blockage and check that the foam and felt filters are clean and fully dry. A wet filter causes the same trip pattern as a physical blockage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Shark SV769TD suddenly has much weaker suction even though the battery indicator still shows full — what's happening?

The indicator shows cell voltage, not actual remaining capacity — and on a degraded or restricted motor, voltage can look fine while current draw is already pulling the cell into sag. Check the filter and brush roll first; a clogged filter forces the motor to work harder, which drags voltage down before the indicator catches up. If the filter is clean and the problem persists, the original cell has likely lost enough capacity that it can no longer sustain the motor's rated draw. Swap the battery and retest at full charge.

The vacuum runs for a moment, cuts out completely, then starts again on its own — is the battery faulty?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failing cell. The motor pulls a current spike when airflow is blocked — thick carpet, a sealed nozzle, or debris packed into the brush roll all cause it. The BMS cuts power to protect the cell, then resets once current drops. Remove any blockage, check that both the foam and felt filters are completely dry, and test again — a wet filter produces the same trip pattern as a physical blockage.

My replacement XB768 battery isn't charging on the SV769TD dock — the indicator just blinks and stops.

Shark's dock communicates with the battery's BMS before delivering a full charge current — if the handshake doesn't complete, the dock blinks and aborts. Seat the battery firmly and hold it in place for five seconds to ensure the contacts are fully engaged, then try again. If the blinking continues, clean the dock contacts and the battery terminals with a dry cloth to remove any oxidation. A confirmed charge voltage at the dock terminals should read between 17.5V and 18.5V — if it reads zero, the dock itself is the fault.
