Fits Black&Decker Z-PD1200 and PD1200 H1 handheld vacuums; replaces OEM part 90584779.
12V 2000mAh Ni-MH pack delivers sustained motor voltage on carpet and bare floor cleaning cycles.
Slides into the battery slot with a single locking tab; connector seats flush with no force required.
We bench-tested the pack on a Z-PD1200 motor load — BMS delivered steady current draw with no early cutoff.
Remove this battery from the charging dock immediately after reaching full charge; continuous dock charging degrades Ni-MH capacity permanently.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black&Decker Z-PD1200 / Dustbuster Flexi Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (90584779)

This is a 12V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Black&Decker cordless handheld vacuums. It fits the Z-PD1200, PD1200 H1, Flexi PD1080 H2, and the Dustbuster Flexi Cyclonic Action range, among others. OEM part number 90584779 confirms the correct connector and BMS configuration for these models.

  • Flexi and Dustbuster platform fit: These models share the same 12V cell pack geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake requirements. A single replacement covers the full range listed above without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated charge and discharge runs on the Z-PD1200 platform. The BMS held steady through motor-start current spikes and did not trip under normal suction load on a clear filter.
  • Dock charging on Flexi vacuums: Do not leave this vacuum sitting on the charging dock after the battery reaches full. Ni-MH cells in continuous trickle charge degrade faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens under motor voltage sag — not a dead battery. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor draws more current than its rated load. Voltage drops faster than the indicator registers, and suction falls off while the indicator still reads mid-charge. Clean or replace the filter first. If suction recovers, the battery is fine and the filter was the cause.

Motor cuts out mid-use then comes back on its own

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a battery failure. Sustained restricted airflow forces the motor to pull above its normal current draw. The BMS trips to protect the cell pack and resets once temperature drops. Clear any blockage in the nozzle or filter. If the motor still trips on a clean filter, check that the replacement pack voltage reads at least 12.0V under load before assuming a faulty cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

The vacuum ran fine for a few weeks, now it barely lasts through one room — what changed?

Ni-MH cells in handheld vacuums fade quickly when left on the dock continuously between uses. Trickle charge from the dock degrades cell capacity faster than normal cycling does. Pull the vacuum off the dock once it's fully charged and only return it when the battery is genuinely depleted. Two or three full discharge-then-charge cycles after changing the habit will confirm whether capacity recovers.

My replacement battery won't charge at all — the charger light just stays on solid or doesn't respond.

Some Black&Decker chargers expect a minimum voltage from the pack before initiating a charge cycle. If the replacement cell arrived deeply discharged, the charger may not recognise it. Try a short manual trickle charge at low current for 10–15 minutes using a compatible Ni-MH charger set to around 100mA, then reconnect to the dock — this nudges the pack voltage above the charger's detection threshold.

Suction feels noticeably weaker than the old battery even on a clean filter — is the new pack undersized?

The replacement matches OEM spec at 12V and 2000mAh, so capacity is not the issue. Weak suction on a new pack usually means the cells arrived partially discharged from storage. Run two full charge-and-full-discharge cycles before judging performance. If suction is still low after conditioning, verify the pack voltage at the terminals reaches at least 13.2V at end of charge.
