Fits Shark XB617U cordless stick vacuum; replaces OEM part XB617U.
8.4V and 3000mAh capacity sustains motor power through full cleaning cycles on hard floors and carpet.
Connector slides into the vertical handle slot with a single locking tab; orientation is marked on the pack.
We ran the pack through five charge-discharge cycles on a Shark charger; BMS delivered steady voltage with no early cutoff.
Do not leave this vacuum on the charging dock permanently — continuous trickle charge degrades Ni-MH capacity faster; charge to full and remove.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Shark XB617U — 8.4V Ni-MH 3000mAh Replacement Battery (XB617U)

This is an 8.4V Ni-MH replacement battery rated at 3000mAh (25.2Wh) for the Shark XB617U cordless stick vacuum. It slots into the original battery housing and connects to the same charging circuit. Replace this pack when the original no longer holds a charge or suction drops off quickly into a cleaning session.

  • XB617U platform fit: The XB617U battery pack uses a fixed 8.4V Ni-MH cell configuration matched to the vacuum's motor driver and charge controller. Swapping to a pack with the same cell count and connector keeps the charging circuit within its designed voltage window.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on the XB617U platform. The BMS handled sustained motor draw without triggering overcurrent cutoff, and the pack reached rated capacity within the first two cycles.
  • Dock charging behaviour on the XB617U: Do not leave the vacuum permanently on the charging dock. Ni-MH cells in continuous trickle charge accumulate heat and lose capacity faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor draws more current than the battery can supply cleanly at its current state of charge. A partially blocked filter is the most common trigger — restricted airflow forces the motor to work harder, pulling current spikes that sag the pack voltage early. The vacuum's motor controller reads that voltage sag as a low-battery condition and reduces power before the indicator catches up. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest suction across a full charge cycle.

Motor cuts out mid-clean and then recovers after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When sustained suction restriction spikes current draw beyond the pack's rated threshold, the BMS shuts the output to protect the cells — then resets once temperature and current drop. The fix is almost always a blocked filter or a clog in the brush roll housing forcing the motor to stall. Clear the restriction, confirm the filter is clean, and the cutout behaviour stops. If it continues on an unblocked vacuum, check the pack voltage under load — it should hold above 7.0V during normal motor operation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Shark XB617U lose suction halfway through vacuuming even though the battery light isn't showing low?

A partially blocked filter is the most likely cause. When airflow is restricted, the motor draws more current than normal, which drags the pack voltage down earlier than the indicator registers. The vacuum reduces motor power to protect the battery before the low-battery light trips. Clean or replace the filter, then run a full charge cycle and retest.

The motor on my XB617U keeps cutting out for a few seconds then comes back on — is this a battery fault?

That behaviour is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failed cell. Sustained high current draw — usually from a blocked brush roll or clogged filter — spikes beyond the pack's rated threshold, and the BMS shuts output briefly to protect the cells. Clear any blockage in the brush roll housing and check the filter before assuming the battery is at fault. If the cutout continues on an unobstructed vacuum, measure pack voltage under load — it should stay above 7.0V during normal operation.

My XB617U battery fades faster than it used to even though I charged it regularly — what causes that?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of accelerated capacity fade in Ni-MH vacuum packs. Leaving the vacuum on the dock after it reaches full charge puts the cells through prolonged trickle current, which generates heat and degrades cell capacity over time. The fix going forward is to charge only when the pack is depleted and remove the vacuum from the dock once charging completes. A replacement pack managed this way will hold capacity significantly longer than one left permanently docked.
