Fits Simoco-Sepura Tetra STP8000, STS8000, STP8038, STP8030 portable radios; replaces OEM battery STP8000.
Voltage 7.4V, capacity 1880mAh—delivers full transmit power output without sag during sustained RF keying.
Connector slides into radio battery slot with positive terminal forward; gold contacts must seat fully for dock recognition.
We bench tested this cell at 7.4V nominal; BMS accepted dock charging handshake on first insertion with clean contacts.
If the charger dock shows no green light after inserting this pack, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—Sepura platforms need a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Simoco-Sepura Tetra STP8000 Series — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (STP8000)

This 7.4V, 1880mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the factory pack in the Simoco-Sepura Tetra STP8000 portable radio. It fits the STP8000, STS8000, STP8038, STP8030, and more than ten additional STP8000-series variants. Same voltage, same connector, same BMS handshake protocol as the original.

  • STP8000 platform compatibility: Every radio in this series runs the same 7.4V rail and uses the same contact layout and BMS communication protocol — that is why one battery covers the STP8000, STS8000, STP8038, and STP8030 without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the STP8000 platform. The BMS accepted the dock handshake on first insertion and held voltage within spec across the full PTT transmit cycle.
  • First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The STP8000 dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the STP8000 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

A new Li-Polymer cell ships at storage voltage — typically 3.7–3.8V per cell, not the 4.2V full-charge peak. When you key the PTT on a new, uncharged pack, the transmit current spike can pull cell voltage below the BMS overcurrent threshold in under a second. The BMS trips and the radio goes silent, even though the pack is not faulty. Always charge the replacement battery fully in the dock before the first shift. The dock should show a solid green or full-bar indicator before you rely on the radio in service.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after swap

The STP8000 reads voltage-threshold steps to drive its bar indicator — it does not use a chip-level capacity counter. A new pack at storage voltage sits in a lower threshold band and will display one or two fewer bars than a fully charged cell. This is not a defect in the replacement pack. Charge the battery completely in the dock, then reinsert it. The indicator should step up to its correct position at or above 7.9V resting voltage.

Frequently Asked Questions

My STP8000 goes silent the moment I press PTT — the replacement pack is brand new, what's happening?

A new Li-Polymer pack ships at storage voltage, not full charge. When the PTT fires, the transmit current spike pulls the cell voltage below the BMS overcurrent cutoff in under a second, so the radio cuts out. This is not a faulty pack — it is an uncharged one. Place the battery in the dock and charge it fully before use; the fault will not repeat once the cells are at their full 4.2V per cell peak.

The dock LED has been blinking for two hours and never goes green — did the charger reject the new battery?

A blinking or fault LED almost always means the dock cannot complete the BMS handshake through dirty or partially seated contacts. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly until it clicks. If the dock still blinks after a fresh seating, the pack may have arrived below the dock's acceptance voltage floor from extended transit storage — leave it seated for 15 minutes, as most STP8000 docks will trickle-charge a low pack up to acceptance threshold before switching to normal charge.

The radio drops to noticeably weaker audio and reduced TX range mid-shift — battery or radio fault?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not an audio or RF hardware fault. As the pack depletes, cell voltage drops and the STP8000 steps down transmit power to stay within the BMS low-voltage protection window. Check resting voltage after a shift — if it reads below 7.0V, the pack has been cycled deep. Let the battery complete a full charge cycle in the dock before the next shift; a rested pack at 7.4V resting voltage should hold full TX power through normal operational use.
