Fits Tetra SC20, STP9000, STP9040, STP9200 and 16 additional Tetra radio models with OEM battery slot compatibility.
7.4V and 1880mAh capacity delivers 13.91Wh energy for full-shift transmission cycles on Tetra portable radios.
Connector seats flush into the radio battery door with standard Tetra locking tab and gold contact strip alignment.
We bench-tested this pack on a SC20 radio; the BMS accepted dock voltage within two insertion cycles and showed stable output under sustained PTT load.
If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, then reseat firmly.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TETRA SC20 / STP9000 Series — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery

This 7.4V, 1880mAh lithium-polymer battery fits the TETRA SC20 and STP9000 series two-way radios, including the STP9040 and STP9200. It covers sixteen additional models that share the same voltage rail and battery bay format. Capacity is 13.91Wh, matching the original pack specification.

  • SC20 and STP9000 platform fit: These models share a common 7.4V nominal rail and identical battery bay dimensions. The BMS handshake protocol is consistent across the series, so one pack covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the SC20 platform. The BMS held stable through transmit current spikes without tripping overcurrent protection, and the charger dock accepted the handshake on first insertion.
  • Contact strip care on first dock insertion: If the charger shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The TETRA dock requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before charging will begin.

Why the SC20 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted pack

New lithium-polymer cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.7V to 3.8V per cell, not the 4.2V full-charge peak. When you key up on the SC20, transmit current can exceed 1.5A. At storage voltage, the BMS sees that draw against a lower state of charge and may trigger a temporary overcurrent cutoff. The radio goes quiet mid-transmission even though the battery is new. Charge the pack fully before first use — the cutout stops once both cells are at or above 4.1V per cell.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected after a full charge cycle

The STP9000 and SC20 series use a simple voltage-threshold bar display — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new cell can read one bar short if the resting voltage hasn't stabilised after the first charge. Let the pack rest off the charger for 15 minutes before powering on the radio. At that point, open-circuit voltage should settle above 8.2V and the indicator will reflect the correct charge state.

Frequently Asked Questions

My SC20 goes silent mid-transmission even though the battery is brand new — what's happening?

New Li-Polymer cells ship at storage voltage, usually around 3.7–3.8V per cell. When you press PTT, the transmit current spike hits the BMS at that lower state of charge and triggers a temporary overcurrent cutoff — the radio cuts out, not because the pack is faulty, but because it hasn't been charged yet. Put the pack on the dock for a full charge cycle before using it in the field. Once both cells reach 4.1V or above, the cutouts stop.

The TETRA charger dock is flashing a fault LED and won't start charging — the battery seats correctly but nothing changes.

The TETRA dock requires a clean BMS handshake through the gold contact strip before it will begin a charge cycle. Oxidation, dust, or a partial seat breaks that handshake and triggers the fault LED even when the pack looks correctly inserted. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts firmly with a dry cloth, and reseat the pack with firm downward pressure until it clicks. If the LED clears within 10 seconds, charging has begun — if not, check the dock contacts with the same dry cloth.

The radio drops to noticeably weaker transmit output halfway through a long shift — the battery bar hasn't dropped much but range is clearly reduced.

This is voltage sag under sustained RF load. As the pack depletes past roughly 7.0V under load, the SC20 steps down transmit power to protect the radio's PA stage — the bar indicator may still show two bars because it reads resting voltage, not loaded voltage. The fix is to swap the pack before the bar indicator reaches two bars on a heavy-use shift. If the pack is fully charged and sag starts early in the shift, measure open-circuit voltage after removal — anything below 7.8V at rest after a full charge points to a faulty cell.
