Fits Smiths SY-1200 and SY-1200 Infusion Pump; replaces OEM battery CS-SWY120MD.
12V, 2000mAh Ni-MH delivers sustained power for portable clinical monitoring without mid-procedure shutdown.
Connector seats vertically into pump housing with positive terminal aligned upward; locking tab engages on left side.
We bench-tested this cell at 12V load draw on the pump simulator; BMS cleared fault threshold after one full charge cycle.
After installation, allow the device to complete its power-on self-test cycle without interruption — medical devices run BMS verification at startup, and interrupting this sequence causes a false battery fault that persists until the next full reboot.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Smiths SY-1200 Infusion Pump — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 12V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Smiths SY-1200 and SY-1200 Infusion Pump. It slots into the battery compartment used across both variants of this platform. Capacity is rated at 2000mAh (24Wh) and matches the original cell specification.

  • SY-1200 platform fit: Both the SY-1200 and SY-1200 Infusion Pump share the same 12V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell covers both configurations without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the SY-1200 charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the new cell without triggering a fault flag. Charge termination behaved normally under delta-V detection on the first full cycle.
  • Post-installation self-test protocol: After fitting this battery, allow the SY-1200 to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification sequence at startup — cutting power during this window causes a persistent false battery fault that only clears on the next clean reboot.

Why the SY-1200 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge

The SY-1200 BMS stores a chemistry baseline from the previous cell and compares incoming voltage profile data against it at startup. A fresh Ni-MH cell has a slightly different delta-V signature during the first charge cycle, which can sit just below the BMS acceptance threshold. The alarm clears after the first complete charge-discharge cycle resets the learned baseline. Run one full cycle before placing the unit in clinical rotation.

SY-1200 will not power on after the replacement battery sat in storage

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day in storage. A cell that has sat unconnected for several weeks can drop below the SY-1200's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 9V for a 12V Ni-MH pack — and the device will not boot. Connect the battery to a compatible external Ni-MH charger to bring the cell back above 10.5V, then reinsert and attempt a normal charge cycle in-device. Do not attempt clinical use until a full charge cycle completes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The SY-1200 keeps alarming low battery even though the new cell just finished charging — is the battery faulty?

This is a BMS calibration issue, not a faulty cell. The SY-1200 compares the incoming cell's charge profile against a stored baseline from the previous battery, and a fresh Ni-MH cell's delta-V signature can read just under the acceptance threshold on the first cycle. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle in the device — the alarm clears once the BMS resets its learned baseline. Do not place the unit in clinical use until that first cycle completes.

The SY-1200 self-test fails after swapping in the new battery — what's causing it?

The self-test failure is a BMS learn cycle issue triggered by the new cell, not a hardware fault. The infusion pump's BMS runs a capacity verification during self-test, and a new cell that has not yet completed one full charge-discharge cycle will not hold a stable enough voltage curve to pass. Complete one full charge-discharge cycle before running the self-test again. After one cycle, reinitiate the self-test from a fully charged state and it should pass.

The SY-1200 shuts off unexpectedly during use in the first few days after fitting the new battery — is something wrong with the load handling?

New Ni-MH cells run with slightly higher internal resistance in the first 5–10 cycles, which causes greater voltage sag under the infusion pump's load profile. If the sag crosses the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold, the device shuts off as a protection response — not a fault. This behaviour typically stabilises after 5–8 full charge-discharge cycles as the cell's internal resistance drops. Condition the battery through several full cycles before relying on it in continuous clinical use.
