Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sony HBH-DS970 / HBH-DS980 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LP1022L15)
This is a 3.7V, 120mAh Li-ion cell for the Sony HBH-DS970 and HBH-DS980 Bluetooth stereo headsets. It matches the OEM part numbers LP1022L15 and GP1022L15. Dimensions are 21.75 × 9.90 × 9.90mm — physically identical to the factory cell.
- HBH-DS970 and DS980 compatibility: Both models share the same cell format, voltage rail, and BMS handshake. The connector and PCB pin-out are identical across the two headsets, so one cell covers both.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the HBH-DS970 platform. The BMS accepted the new pack without fault codes, and the protection circuit responded correctly to both charge cutoff and low-voltage cutoff thresholds.
- Base station conditioning on first use: Seat the headset in the base station and charge it through one full uninterrupted cycle before your first call. The base needs to complete a full charge pass to log the new cell and begin reporting talk-time estimates accurately.
Why the HBH-DS970 cuts out mid-call on a new battery
The DS970 runs both the Bluetooth audio codec and the radio transmitter simultaneously. That combined draw on a cell that has not yet completed its first full charge cycle can pull cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold momentarily. The BMS reads this as an undervoltage event and shuts the headset down to protect the cell. Running two or three full charge cycles brings internal resistance down and eliminates these transient sags under load.
Base station shows full charge but headset cuts off after only a few minutes
A replacement cell shipped at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.65V — can trick the base station into reading near-full capacity before a proper charge cycle has run. The base reports full, but the actual usable charge is shallow. Place the headset in the cradle, let it charge uninterrupted until the indicator confirms completion, then drain it through normal use before the next charge. After three to five cycles the cell's state-of-charge calibration aligns with the base station's reporting, and the cutoff issue stops.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HBH-DS970 keeps dropping the call about halfway through — is this a battery fault or a radio issue?
On the DS970, mid-call dropout is almost always a voltage sag fault, not a radio fault. The headset draws current for both the Bluetooth radio and audio decoding at the same time, and a new or partially conditioned cell can dip below the BMS cutoff threshold under that combined load. Run three full charge-discharge cycles through normal use — each cycle lowers the cell's internal resistance and the sag narrows. If dropout stops after cycle three, the cell was the cause.
The base station is flashing an error light and won't charge the new battery — what's happening?
The base station handshake checks for a valid BMS signal before it opens the charge circuit. If the replacement cell arrived at a low storage voltage, the base may not recognise the pack on the first seat. Remove the headset, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly in the cradle. If the error persists, check that the headset contacts are clean and making full contact — a partial connection at 3.6V can prevent the handshake from completing.
Talk time is noticeably shorter than rated for the first few uses — is the replacement cell faulty?
It is not faulty. Li-ion cells at 120mAh capacity require several charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Fresh cells are shipped at partial charge and the electrolyte needs a few cycles to fully wet the electrode surfaces. Rated capacity is typically reached between cycle three and cycle five. Track talk time across five full cycles — if it is still noticeably short after cycle five, measure resting voltage after a full charge; it should read 4.18–4.20V.
