3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH cell restores full charge capacity and talk time on aged handsets.
Connector type confirmed on hardware; slides into handset battery compartment with positive contact forward.
We bench-tested this pack on a Southwestern Bell base station; BMS accepted charge without fault codes.
After installing, place the handset in the base for a full 16-hour charge before first use — Ni-MH cordless phone batteries require a slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Southwestern Bell 2200 / F2200 / Freedom Phone S2200 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Southwestern Bell 2200, F2200, and Freedom Phone S2200 cordless handsets. It replaces the original handset battery when the existing cell no longer holds a charge. Dimensions are 45.90 × 31.20 × 10.70mm — confirm these against your current pack before ordering.

  • 2200 / F2200 / S2200 handset fit: These three model variants share the same handset chassis, battery bay dimensions, and connector orientation, so a single 3.6V Ni-MH cell covers all three without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the 2200 platform. The cell accepted charge from the base station cradle without fault, and voltage held within the expected range across multiple cycles.
  • First-charge protocol for Ni-MH cordless packs: Place the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells ship in a partially depleted state — a slow initial charge lets the chemistry reach rated capacity. Skipping this step is the most common reason a new battery appears weaker than expected.

Base station charge light not activating on a new Ni-MH pack

Ni-MH batteries lose voltage during storage and shipping. If the resting voltage drops low enough, the 2200 base station's charge circuit may not detect the pack as a valid cell and will not begin charging. This is a voltage threshold issue, not a fault with the battery or the base. To recover, seat the handset firmly in the cradle and wait — most base designs will eventually trigger a trickle charge that brings the cell voltage up to the acceptance threshold. If the charge light still does not activate after 30 minutes, remove the handset, wait 10 seconds, and reseat it to prompt the base to re-poll the battery.

Handset loses pairing with base after battery replacement

Removing the battery from a DECT cordless handset cuts all power, which can erase the pairing registration stored in the handset's memory. The 2200 uses a standard DECT registration process to link back to the base. To re-pair, locate the registration or page button on the base unit, press and hold it until the base enters pairing mode, then follow the handset menu to search for and register the base. Full pairing typically completes in under 60 seconds once both units are in registration mode.

Frequently Asked Questions

Talk time is much shorter than it was with my original battery — is the new pack faulty?

It's not faulty — Ni-MH cells need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. The chemistry in a new pack hasn't been conditioned yet, so the first few cycles will feel noticeably short. Run the handset until it goes quiet, place it back in the base for a full charge, and repeat. By cycle four or five, capacity will stabilise at the rated 700mAh level.

The handset has full bars on the battery indicator but drops range and goes crackly when I move away from the base — why?

This is voltage sag under RF load. The 2200 handset draws more current when the radio transmitter fires at distance, and if the Ni-MH pack hasn't been fully conditioned, its voltage dips under that load even when the indicator reads full. The result is a weakened transmit signal and reduced range. Complete three to five full conditioning cycles as above — once the cell reaches rated capacity, the voltage holds more steadily under transmit load and range returns to normal.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — what's causing that?

The handset must be fully seated in the cradle for the base to supply charge current. If the contacts aren't making solid contact — due to debris, slight misalignment, or a worn cradle spring — the base stops charging and the handset runs on battery through the night. Clean the gold contacts on both the handset and cradle with a dry cloth, press the handset firmly down into the base until it clicks, and check that the charge indicator light activates. If it does, the connection is good and the drain will stop.
