Barrel connector seats into handset battery slot with positive contact on top; locking tab seats flush without forcing.
We ran charge cycles on a 35820 base station — BMS accepted the cell without fault codes on first insertion.
Place the handset in base for a full 16-hour charge before first use; NiMH cordless batteries need slow first charge to reach rated capacity.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

NorthWestern Bell 35818 Series — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH battery for the NorthWestern Bell cordless phone handset. It fits models 35818, 35819, 35820, 35821, and four additional variants in the same series. When the original pack no longer holds a charge, this is the direct replacement.

  • 35818 series compatibility: These models share the same handset housing, connector orientation, and 3.6V power rail. The BMS on each handset accepts a standard Ni-MH charge profile, so no firmware pairing or handshake is required between the pack and base station.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the handset platform. The BMS accepted the Ni-MH charge curve without fault, and voltage held steady across standby and active RF transmission loads.
  • First charge on new Ni-MH packs: After installing, seat the handset in the base and leave it for a full 16 hours before first use. Ni-MH cells that ship in a partially discharged state need that slow initial charge to reach rated capacity — skipping it leads to shorter talk time from day one.

Range dropping on the 35818 after a battery swap

The 35818 handset boosts its RF transmit power directly from the battery rail. When a Ni-MH pack is worn or not fully conditioned, voltage sags under the transmit load. That sag is enough to reduce effective range — the handset is still on, but the signal weakens at the edges of coverage. A fully charged, freshly conditioned pack holds the rail steady and restores the original transmission strength.

Handset not pairing with the base after battery removal

Some DECT handsets lose their pairing data when power is fully cut during a battery swap. The 35818 stores pairing in volatile memory that depends on a small residual charge. If the handset does not register on the base after the new battery is installed, re-pair it manually: press and hold the page or find button on the base for five seconds until the handset searches and locks back to the base station.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NorthWestern Bell 35818 talk time is still short after swapping the battery — did I get a bad pack?

Almost certainly not. Ni-MH cells ship in a partially discharged state and need three to five full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. Each cycle, the pack recovers a little more capacity than the last. Run the handset until it prompts you to charge, then return it to the base for a full 16-hour charge — repeat this three times and talk time will increase noticeably.

The base station shows a charging error light after I installed the new battery — what's causing that?

Ni-MH packs drop to a low resting voltage during storage. If that voltage falls below the base station's acceptance threshold, the charger flags it as a fault rather than beginning the charge cycle. Place the handset in the base and leave it undisturbed for at least 30 minutes — most NorthWestern Bell bases will retry the charge circuit and recover the pack once it detects even a small voltage rise. If the error clears and charging begins, the pack is fine.

The battery drains completely overnight even when the handset is sitting in the base — is the charger broken?

This is usually a seating issue, not a charger fault. The 35818 handset needs firm contact between the charging pins on the handset and the base cradle to trickle charge overnight. Remove the handset, wipe the charging contacts on both the handset and the base with a dry cloth, then reseat the handset firmly. A correctly seated handset should read above 4.0V at the battery terminals after a full overnight charge.
