Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Square S6 / S8 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (PR-244147A)
This is a 3.7V 520mAh lithium-polymer battery built to OEM part number PR-244147A. It fits the Square S6 and S8 portable payment terminals. When the original cell degrades after repeated charge cycles, this replacement restores wireless transaction capability without a constant power connection.
- S6 and S8 compatibility: Both terminals run the same 3.7V power rail and share the same connector footprint and BMS handshake protocol — one battery cell covers both models without any modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the S6 boot sequence and card-read workflow. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge IC entered normal CC/CV charging without triggering a protection cutoff.
- First deployment tip: After fitting this battery, complete one full transaction cycle before deploying the terminal in a live environment. The terminal maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs at least one complete power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator correctly.
Why the S6 reboots mid-transaction after a battery swap
The S6 pulls a combined current spike during card read plus wireless transmission. On a new cell that hasn't completed its first charge cycle, internal resistance is slightly elevated — enough for the BMS to see a momentary undervoltage event and trigger a protective reset. This isn't a faulty battery. Run the terminal through one complete charge and transaction cycle and the BMS recalibrates its trip threshold against the actual cell characteristics. Reboots during normal use stop after that initial cycle.
Terminal won't power on after sitting unused in a drawer
Lithium-polymer cells self-discharge at roughly 2–3% per month. A terminal stored for six months or more can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V — and the protection circuit locks the output entirely. Connect the terminal to its original charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. Most charge ICs include a trickle-charge stage that slowly brings the cell back above the 2.8V re-initialisation threshold before switching to normal charging. If the charging indicator doesn't appear within 45 minutes, check that the supply voltage reaching the terminal is within the 5V ±5% spec.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Square S6 charge indicator is stuck at 99% and never shows full — is the battery faulty?
It isn't faulty. The charge IC runs a top-off stage on a new lithium-polymer cell that can hold the indicator just below 100% for an extended period while it applies a low-current finishing charge. This is normal behaviour on the first charge cycle. Let the terminal stay on the charger until it drops into standby — typically the display dims or switches off — and the indicator will update correctly on the next boot.
The terminal won't complete its boot sequence — it gets to the Square logo and then shuts off.
The PCI boot sequence draws a sustained current load while the terminal verifies firmware and initialises the wireless radio. If the BMS handshake hasn't been accepted yet on a freshly installed cell, the protection circuit can interpret this draw as an overcurrent event and cut output before the boot completes. Connect the terminal to its charger and allow it to charge for a full hour before attempting to boot again unplugged. One complete charge cycle is enough for the BMS to accept the cell and stop interrupting the boot sequence.
The S6 gets noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is that normal with this battery?
Yes, within limits. The terminal draws simultaneously from the display, the wireless module, and the card-read circuitry during active use. That combined load generates heat at the cell and the charge IC. Warm-to-touch is expected; hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold is not. If the terminal reaches that level, move it to a cooler surface and avoid charging it simultaneously during peak use. Normal operating temperature for this cell is 0°C to 45°C — sustained use above that range accelerates capacity fade.
