Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Thorn Voyager Solid E3D — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (59009287)
This is a 3.6V, 2500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Thorn Voyager Solid E3D emergency lighting unit. It fits directly using OEM part number 59009287. The cell restores emergency illumination function during mains failure events in commercial and public-access environments.
- Solid E3D charge controller compatibility: The Solid E3D uses a trickle-charge controller matched to a specific cell voltage profile. This Ni-MH cell sits within that acceptance window, so the charge controller resumes float charging without tripping a fault state on installation.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a simulated mains-failure discharge and confirmed the BMS accepted charge from rest voltage. Cell voltage stabilised at 4.2V post-charge and held under sustained load without dropout.
- First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the cell before your next scheduled compliance test. Skipping this step risks a failed duration test on the compliance log.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
A freshly shipped Ni-MH cell arrives in a partially discharged state — typically between 1.0V and 1.1V per cell. The Solid E3D charge controller has a minimum float-acceptance threshold. If resting voltage is below that window, the controller holds the fault LED red rather than transitioning to green. Leave the fitting on mains power for 12–24 hours. The controller will trickle the cell up through the acceptance threshold and shift to green once it reaches approximately 1.35V per cell under float.
Emergency light dims and cuts out partway through a duration test
This happens when a new cell has not completed a full conditioning cycle before the duration test is run. The cell delivers surface charge on the first activation but hits a voltage sag under sustained load before reaching rated capacity. It is not a faulty cell — it is an uncharged one. Run one full manual test cycle after 24 hours on charge, allow the fitting to return to full charge, then rerun the duration test. The cell should hold load voltage above 3.0V for the full rated period.

Frequently Asked Questions
The fitting still shows a fault LED after I've installed the new battery and it's been on mains power for an hour — what's wrong?
One hour is not long enough for a depleted Ni-MH cell to climb into the charge controller's float acceptance window. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 12–24 hours before checking the LED status again. Some Solid E3D fittings also require a manual reset after a battery swap — press and hold the test button for 3 seconds once the cell has reached charge. If the LED shifts to green after that step, the fitting is operating correctly.
My emergency light passed installation but failed the annual duration test three months later — the battery is less than a year old, so what happened?
Ni-MH cells in continuous trickle-charge environments can develop capacity fade faster than expected if the fitting runs warm. Enclosed back-boxes and recessed ceiling fittings trap heat, and prolonged trickle charge at elevated temperature accelerates cell degradation. Check that the fitting's ventilation slots are clear and that ambient temperature at the fitting is below 35°C. If the cell voltage drops below 3.0V before the rated duration ends on a fresh full charge, the cell needs replacement regardless of age.
The emergency light activated during a power cut but the light was noticeably dimmer than before — is that a battery problem or a lamp problem?
On the Solid E3D, reduced output during an actual mains failure most often points to the battery rather than the lamp. A cell with degraded capacity cannot sustain the current draw needed for full lamp brightness as voltage sags under load. Recharge the fitting fully, then run a manual test by holding the test button — if brightness drops off noticeably within the first portion of the test, the cell is the cause. Replace the battery, complete a 24-hour charge, and run a full duration test to confirm output holds stable.
