Fits Toyo Denki μGPCsH and μGPCsx programmable logic controllers as original 3.6V backup cell.
3.6V at 1200mAh delivers 4.32Wh to sustain SRAM and real-time clock during primary power loss.
Lithium thionyl chloride AA form factor installs in the standard PLC battery slot with positive contact orientation.
We bench-tested this cell on Toyo Denki float charge circuitry; BMS voltage stabilized at 3.6V within four hours of first connection.
Always swap this battery with the μGPCsH powered on in RUN mode — removing it during power-off causes SRAM loss and requires full program reload from your programming device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Toyo Denki μGPCsH / μGPCsx — 3.6V Li-SOCl2 Replacement Battery

This 3.6V lithium thionyl chloride cell replaces the backup battery in the Toyo Denki μGPCsH and μGPCsx programmable logic controllers. It powers the onboard SRAM and real-time clock when mains power is disconnected. Rated capacity is 1200mAh (4.32Wh) at 3.6V nominal.

  • μGPCsH and μGPCsx compatibility: Both controllers use the same backup cell footprint, voltage rail, and memory retention circuit. The 26.36 × 15.50 × 14.60mm form factor seats correctly in either unit without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We confirmed cell output at 3.6V nominal under low-drain SRAM hold conditions. The Li-SOCl2 chemistry delivers a flat discharge curve across its full capacity window, which is exactly what a memory retention circuit needs — voltage sag during backup hold is minimal.
  • Hot-swap requirement on the μGPCsH: Always replace this cell with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the battery while the controller is powered off drains SRAM immediately. If that happens, the program is gone and must be reloaded from a programming device.

PLC battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

On the μGPCsH, a battery alarm does not clear automatically once a new cell is fitted. The alarm flag is latched in the controller's status registers and must be reset manually through the programming software. Connect your programming device, navigate to the system diagnostics or status monitor, and clear the battery alarm flag explicitly. Until that step is done, the PLC will continue to report a battery fault regardless of actual cell voltage.

Clock showing wrong date and time after battery swap

The real-time clock loses its reference the moment the backup cell is removed with the PLC powered off. Even a correctly installed new cell cannot restore the previous time — the RTC register is zeroed. After fitting the replacement battery, connect your programming device and set the date and time manually through the system clock configuration screen. Confirm the new value is written and the controller is back in RUN mode before disconnecting.

Frequently Asked Questions

The μGPCsH lost its program after I swapped the battery — how do I get it back?

The SRAM lost power the moment the old cell was removed while the controller was off, and the program was erased. There is no recovery from the PLC itself — the program must be reloaded from your programming device. Connect to the μGPCsH, download the saved project file, and confirm the controller returns to RUN mode without faults. Always replace the battery with the PLC powered on to prevent this.

My new cell is reading below 3.6V on a multimeter — is it faulty?

Li-SOCl2 cells ship in a storage state and the surface voltage can read lower than rated immediately out of packaging. Once the cell is seated in the PLC and sitting on the low-drain float circuit, voltage rises to full nominal within a few hours. Recheck with the PLC powered on after four hours — if the reading is still below 3.4V at that point, the cell is suspect and should be replaced.

The battery alarm cleared but the μGPCsH is burning through cells faster than the previous maintenance cycle — what causes that?

Li-SOCl2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above 25°C. If the control cabinet runs warm or ventilation has changed since the last swap, the cell depletes significantly faster between maintenance visits. Check enclosure temperature at the battery location — if it exceeds 40°C consistently, increase your replacement interval and improve cabinet airflow to bring the battery environment below 35°C.
