Fits TSC TDM-20 portable printer; replaces OEM battery part number TDM-BAT20.
7.4V, 1100mAh lithium-ion cell delivers stable voltage for consistent thermal print quality and motor torque throughout the charge cycle.
Slides into the rear battery slot with a single snap latch; connector aligns vertically without keying.
We bench-tested this cell in a TDM-20 with fresh label stock; BMS delivered steady 7.4V under full thermal head load with no early cutoff.
After installing, charge fully and print five test receipts before field deployment — the thermal head requires a calibration print sequence to confirm BMS current profile matches the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

TSC TDM-20 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (TDM-BAT20)

This 7.4V, 1100mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM TDM-BAT20 in the TSC TDM-20 mobile thermal printer. It powers the thermal print head, paper feed motor, and wireless radio on a single cell pack. Retail, logistics, and field teams use the TDM-20 for on-the-go label and receipt printing where mains power is not available.

  • TDM-20 platform fit: The TDM-20 uses a 7.4V nominal rail to drive both the thermal head and the feed motor from the same pack. The BMS on this replacement matches the OEM discharge curve and communicates cutoff thresholds the printer firmware expects — the unit will not print if those handshake parameters fall outside tolerance.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a TDM-20 unit. The BMS held steady voltage to the thermal head across the draw cycle, and the paper feed motor received consistent torque without mid-job cutoff.
  • First-install print sequence: After fitting the battery, charge it fully, then print five test labels before deploying. The TDM-20 feed motor calibrates torque draw against the BMS current profile on initial cycles — skipping this step can cause the printer to misread paper position on the first job.

Why the TDM-20 thermal head produces faded output at partial charge

The thermal print head in the TDM-20 requires stable voltage to reach consistent platen temperature across the full print width. When battery voltage sags — typically below 6.8V under load — the head temperature drops mid-line, producing faded or streaky output rather than a full cutoff. This is not a head fault. It is a voltage delivery issue. Fitting a fresh cell and charging to 8.2V before printing resolves it.

TDM-20 disconnecting from Bluetooth mid-job

The TDM-20 wireless radio draws a short current spike each time it transmits a data packet. At low battery charge, that spike causes a momentary voltage sag the BMS reads as an overload event and briefly throttles output. The printer drops the connection and the host app loses the device. This is not a pairing fault or an app bug. Charge the battery above 7.8V before starting a wireless print job to keep the radio stable through the transmission cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The TDM-20 sat in a drawer for three months — now it powers on but won't feed paper. What's wrong?

Long storage drains the cell, and the TDM-20 feed motor needs a minimum voltage under load to generate enough torque to pull paper through. If the battery rested below 6.5V for an extended period, the BMS may be limiting output even after a partial charge. Charge the battery fully to 8.2V, then attempt a feed — if torque does not recover, the cell has degraded past recovery and needs replacement.

Print is coming out faded on one side but crisp on the other — is the thermal head dying?

Uneven fade across the print width on a TDM-20 is almost always a voltage delivery problem, not a head fault. The thermal head draws current across multiple zones simultaneously, and a weakened cell cannot sustain even voltage to all zones under that combined load. Charge the battery fully and run five test prints — if the fade pattern disappears, the original battery was the cause. If the pattern persists on a fully charged replacement cell, then test the head.

The TDM-20 keeps dropping its Bluetooth connection partway through a print job — replaced the phone, still happens.

The radio in the TDM-20 pulls a current spike every time it transmits, and at low battery charge that spike triggers a brief BMS throttle event that drops the connection. It looks like an app or pairing fault, but it is a power issue. Charge the battery above 7.8V before starting a wireless job and check whether the drops stop — if they do, the battery was the cause and the replacement cell will hold the connection through full print runs.
