Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Villeroy & Boch Neapel 2.0 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V, 5200mAh (19.24Wh) Li-ion cell replaces the internal battery in the Villeroy & Boch Neapel 2.0 portable LED desk lamp. It covers models 96875, 96876, 96877, 96878, and at least eight additional Neapel 2.0 variants. When the original cell no longer holds charge, this replacement restores full cordless operation.

  • Neapel 2.0 model range: The 96875 through 96878 and related Neapel 2.0 variants share the same internal cell format — 65.50 × 37.00 × 19.50mm — and the same 3.7V single-cell architecture feeding the LED driver board. One cell spec covers the whole line.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge under the Neapel 2.0's LED driver load. The BMS held stable cutoff voltage at both maximum brightness draw and warm-dim low-draw modes with no false low-battery trips.
  • First-use calibration for Neapel 2.0: Ship storage voltage sits around 3.6V. Charge the lamp fully before switching to maximum brightness. The LED driver needs the cell above 3.7V to deliver rated output — starting cold can cause an immediate apparent low-battery reading.

Lamp not reaching rated brightness after battery replacement

The Neapel 2.0's LED driver has a minimum input voltage threshold — below roughly 3.65V it steps the output down before the cell is actually depleted. A new cell shipped at storage voltage sits right at that edge. Plug the lamp in and charge it fully before using it at full brightness. Once the cell is above 3.75V, the driver releases full current to the LEDs and rated brightness returns.

Lamp flickering or cutting out suddenly at partial charge

This happens when the LED driver briefly drops below its minimum operating voltage during a brightness spike — usually when switching from dim to full brightness in one step. The BMS reads the instantaneous voltage sag and trips the protection circuit. Let the lamp charge to 100%, then step through brightness levels gradually rather than jumping straight to maximum. If the flicker persists after a full charge, check the USB cable — a cable with high resistance can cause the same sag under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Neapel 2.0 goes dark a few seconds after I switch it to full brightness — is the new battery faulty?

It's not a faulty cell — it's the BMS tripping on a voltage sag. When you jump straight to maximum brightness, the LED driver pulls a surge that can briefly drop cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold, especially if the cell isn't fully charged. Charge the lamp to 100% first, then step up through the brightness levels rather than switching directly to full. That sag disappears once the cell is topped up and the driver ramps gradually.

The lamp charges much more slowly when I leave it switched on during charging — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong, but the USB charging current is being split. The lamp's USB input feeds both the charging circuit and the active LED load at the same time. At full brightness, the LED draw reduces the current available to the cell, so charge time increases significantly. Switch the lamp off while charging if you need it to reach full capacity quickly — charging with the lamp off delivers the full rated input current to the cell.

After replacing the battery, the charge indicator shows full almost immediately, then drops to low within minutes of use — what's happening?

The cell arrived at storage voltage and the fuel gauge hasn't been calibrated to the new cell's actual capacity. The indicator is reading voltage, not true state of charge, so it jumps to "full" at 3.6V then falls fast once load is applied. Run one complete charge-to-100% cycle followed by a full discharge at low brightness, then charge again to 100%. After that single calibration cycle the indicator tracks correctly against the 5200mAh capacity.
