Fits VDO Dayton PN4000, PN4000-TSN, and BAT-4060 models using original part number 52340A 1S2PMX.
3.7V 2100mAh Li-ion cell delivers 7.77Wh to restore full power capacity on your portable navigator.
Single-pin connector seats straight into the battery slot with a positive contact locking tab engaged.
We bench-tested this cell in a PN4000 unit; BMS accepted the pack on insertion with no fault codes.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation use — cold start after power interruption requires 5-10 minutes for first fix.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VDO Dayton PN4000 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (52340A 1S2PMX)

This 3.7V 2100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the VDO Dayton PN4000, PN4000-TSN, and BAT-4060 portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM voltage rail and physical footprint at 56.00 × 35.60 × 12.00mm. Fit this cell and the unit powers on without firmware prompts or connector rework.

  • PN4000 and PN4000-TSN compatibility: Both units share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and 3.7V operating rail. The BAT-4060 designation is the OEM battery reference for this platform — all three part numbers draw from the same cell specification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the PN4000 platform. The BMS accepted charge from the OEM dock without flagging an error, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold before the unit could enter a deep-discharge state.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after swap: After fitting this cell, power the GPS on outdoors before driving. Full power removal clears the warm-start cache, so the receiver performs a cold start — expect the first satellite fix to take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent power cycles lock significantly faster once the almanac is rebuilt.

GPS battery draining faster during active turn-by-turn navigation

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, processor, and display backlight simultaneously — a combined load that draws considerably more current than standby. The PN4000 display brightness setting has the largest single impact on drain rate. Dropping brightness one or two steps below maximum measurably reduces the load on the cell. If the unit will sit in a windscreen mount with a power cable available, running it wired eliminates battery draw entirely during longer journeys.

PN4000 shuts off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

The fuel gauge in the PN4000 reads a voltage estimate, not a direct capacity measurement. After a full battery swap, that estimate is uncalibrated — the unit's shutdown threshold can trigger before the on-screen indicator reaches one bar. Run two full charge and discharge cycles through the OEM dock to let the firmware recalibrate the voltage-to-capacity curve. After calibration, the low-battery warning appears at the correct threshold, typically around 3.5V per cell.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PN4000 lost all my saved routes and favourites after fitting the new battery — is that normal?

Yes. The PN4000 stores saved routes and POIs in battery-backed RAM, and a full power interruption during a swap clears that volatile memory. Routes saved to internal flash storage survive the swap, but anything held only in RAM does not. Before removing the old battery, export your routes to an SD card via the device menu — that backup survives any power loss and restores in under a minute.

The GPS took nearly ten minutes to find a signal after I replaced the battery — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the warm-start data the receiver uses to lock quickly, forcing a cold start on first power-up. A cold start requires the unit to download a fresh almanac from satellites, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Park the device near a window or take it outside for that first fix — every subsequent lock will drop back to under a minute once the almanac is stored.

My PN4000 shows full battery after charging but the GPS accuracy seems off at lower charge levels — what's happening?

Some GPS receivers reduce radio-frequency sensitivity when battery voltage drops below a threshold to conserve power, which can degrade positional accuracy. On the PN4000 platform this typically becomes noticeable below approximately 3.6V. Keep the unit charged above half capacity during active navigation use, or run it from the car charger on longer trips to hold voltage in the upper range where the receiver operates at full sensitivity.
