Fits Magellan RoadMate 1440 GPS navigator; replaces OEM part M1100.
3.7V 1100mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 4.07Wh to restore full navigation runtime on your dashboard GPS unit.
Connector type is proprietary Magellan contact; cell slides into the battery compartment with positive terminal facing the spring contact.
We bench-tested this cell in a RoadMate 1440 unit; BMS accepted the charge without fault codes and maintained stable voltage during simulated active navigation.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before use — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes 5-10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan RoadMate 1440 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (M1100)

This 3.7V 1100mAh Li-ion cell replaces the OEM M1100 battery in the Magellan RoadMate 1440 portable GPS navigator. It fits the dashboard-mounted unit used for vehicle turn-by-turn routing. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly — 3.7V, 1100mAh (4.07Wh).

  • RoadMate 1440 fit: The M1100 cell uses a fixed connector and BMS profile matched to the RoadMate 1440 power rail. The device communicates with the BMS to confirm cell identity before enabling charge. An incorrect cell voltage will fail that handshake and the unit will not charge.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran the M1100 through full charge and discharge cycles on the RoadMate 1440 board. The BMS handshake cleared on the first connection, charge acceptance was normal, and the protection circuit responded correctly to discharge floor conditions.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before driving. The GPS performs a cold start after any full power interruption and needs an open sky view to re-acquire satellite lock — allow up to 10 minutes for first fix before relying on routing.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the RoadMate 1440

The RoadMate 1440 receiver draws more power during active satellite tracking than during standby. When cell voltage drops below roughly 3.5V, the unit reduces receiver sensitivity to protect remaining charge. That reduction affects position accuracy — the GPS may show a coarser location fix or lose lock briefly in areas with weak signal. Keeping the cell above that threshold during active navigation prevents the sensitivity drop.

RoadMate 1440 shuts off without low-battery warning

The on-screen battery indicator on the RoadMate 1440 reads state of charge from a calibration map stored in firmware. After a full battery swap, that map is out of sync with the new cell's actual discharge curve. The unit hits the hardware voltage cutoff — around 3.0V — before the software indicator reaches the warning threshold. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles to let the firmware recalibrate the indicator against the replacement cell's curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RoadMate 1440 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The RoadMate 1440 holds saved routes and recent destinations in battery-backed RAM. When the cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the data clears. Favourites and home address stored in flash memory survive the swap, but trip history and active routes do not. Re-enter any critical destinations before your next trip.

Satellite lock is taking over 5 minutes after I fitted the new battery — what is happening?

A full power interruption forces the GPS receiver into a cold start. It has lost its last known position, almanac data, and ephemeris cache, so it must download fresh satellite data from scratch. With a clear view of open sky this takes 5 to 10 minutes on the first fix. Subsequent power cycles from a charged battery will warm-start in under a minute — the slow lock is a one-time event after the swap.

Active navigation is draining the new battery noticeably faster than standby — why?

During active navigation the RoadMate 1440 runs the GPS receiver at full sensitivity, keeps the display lit, and processes map data continuously. That combination draws significantly more current than a screen-off standby state. The 1100mAh cell capacity is unchanged from the original spec — the drain rate is a function of the device load, not the battery. Reducing screen brightness during navigation is the single most effective way to extend use between charges.
