Fits VeriFone Sapphire console; replaces OEM part number 22024-01.
7.2V 3000mAh Ni-MH cell powers the terminal through full merchant transaction cycles without mid-operation shutdowns.
Connector seats firmly into the battery slot with positive terminal contact verified; no locking tab present on this model.
We bench-tested the cell on a Sapphire simulator rig; the battery accepted charge current without BMS faults and maintained voltage stability under printer motor load.
After installation, complete one full transaction cycle before deploying in a live environment — the terminal maps battery capacity during normal operation and requires at least one full power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator correctly.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VeriFone Sapphire Console — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (22024-01)

This 7.2V 3000mAh Ni-MH battery replaces part number 22024-01 in the VeriFone Sapphire point-of-sale console. The Sapphire is a merchant payment terminal used to process credit and debit card transactions. When the original cell degrades, the terminal loses the ability to sustain power through a full business day.

  • Sapphire console fitment: The Sapphire uses a 7.2V Ni-MH pack with a specific connector and BMS handshake tied to the terminal's charge management IC. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector pinout so the terminal's charge controller recognises the pack correctly on first boot.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Sapphire's charge and discharge sequence. The BMS accepted the handshake without error flags, and the charge IC moved through conditioning, bulk, and top-off phases as expected on a fresh Ni-MH cell.
  • First-cycle calibration on the Sapphire: Complete one full transaction cycle before deploying in a live environment. The terminal maps battery capacity during normal operation and requires at least one complete power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator correctly.

Terminal not completing PCI boot sequence after battery swap

The Sapphire runs a PCI security boot check during startup. On a fresh Ni-MH cell, the BMS handshake may not be fully accepted until the pack completes one charge cycle. If the terminal stalls or loops during the boot sequence immediately after installation, this is the most likely cause. Allow the terminal to complete a full charge from mains power before attempting to boot on battery alone.

Sapphire battery indicator stuck at 99% after first charge

New Ni-MH cells arrive partially charged from storage. The Sapphire's charge IC enters top-off mode when it detects a cell already above a low threshold, which can cause the indicator to sit at 99% for an extended period. This is normal behaviour — the IC is topping off the cell, not stalled. Once the pack reaches full charge and the IC exits top-off mode, the indicator updates. If it remains static past four hours on mains, check that the terminal is not in a warm environment above 35°C, as thermal limits will pause the top-off phase.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Sapphire terminal reboots mid-transaction every time the receipt prints — is the battery faulty?

The receipt printer draws a sharp current spike at the moment it fires, and if the Ni-MH cell is below roughly 6.8V under load, the BMS trips an overcurrent cutoff and the terminal reboots. This is a low-state-of-charge issue, not a faulty pack. Charge the terminal fully on mains before the next shift and confirm the indicator clears 99% before use. If reboots continue after a full charge cycle, check that the terminal's charge contacts are clean and making solid contact with the battery pack.

The Sapphire was sitting unused in a storage drawer for months and now won't power on at all — what happened?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day when idle. After several months in a drawer, the cell voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold, and the terminal will not respond to the power button. Connect the terminal to mains power and leave it for a minimum of 30 minutes before attempting to power on — this allows the charge IC to bring the cell back above the recovery voltage floor of approximately 5.4V before resuming normal charge. Do not interrupt the charge during this window.

The Sapphire terminal feels noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is that a problem?

During high-volume periods, the terminal runs the display, wireless radio, and printer simultaneously. That combined draw generates heat in both the cell and the charge circuitry, which is normal for a Ni-MH pack under continuous load. Ni-MH chemistry is more heat-tolerant than Li-ion, but sustained temperatures above 40°C will cause the charge IC to throttle or pause charging. Keep the terminal off direct sunlight and away from enclosed spaces during peak hours to stay below that threshold.
