Sale priceFrom $39.99 USD Regular price $49.99
Shipping calculated at checkout.
Fits Hypercom M4230, T4230, T4240, T4220 EFT terminals; replaces OEM part 400037-001 and 400037-002.
7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion cell delivers the sustained current draw needed for card processing and receipt printing without mid-transaction dropout.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a single locking tab; orientation keyed to prevent reverse insertion on the M4230 platform.
We bench-tested this cell in an M4230 simulator; BMS accepted the handshake on first boot and held stable voltage under combined printer and wireless load.
After installation, run one complete transaction cycle—card read through receipt print—before deploying in a live environment so the terminal calibrates its charge indicator.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hypercom M4230 / T4230 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (400037-001)

This 7.4V 1800mAh Li-ion battery replaces OEM part 400037-001 and 400037-002 in Hypercom portable payment terminals. It fits the M4230, T4230, T4240, and T4220 EFT terminals — the compact handheld units used for tableside and on-site card processing. Voltage and cell dimensions match the original factory spec.

  • M4230 / T4230 / T4240 / T4220 EFT platform fit: These four models share the same battery bay geometry, 7.4V nominal rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One replacement battery covers the entire family without any adapter or connector modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and full discharge on the T4230 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without a fault flag, the charge IC reached top-off correctly, and the terminal held through a full transaction sequence including receipt print and wireless comms.
  • First deployment on the terminal floor: After installing the battery, run one complete transaction cycle — including a receipt print — before going live. The M4230's charge indicator maps capacity during normal operation and needs at least one full power cycle to display an accurate charge level.

Why the M4230 reboots mid-transaction after a battery swap

The receipt printer motor draws a short but sharp current spike the moment it fires. On a new battery that hasn't completed its first full charge-discharge cycle, the BMS can read that spike as an overcurrent event and trip the output. The terminal loses power for a fraction of a second — just long enough to trigger a reboot. Run the terminal through two or three complete transaction cycles, including receipt prints, after the first full charge. Once the BMS has mapped the cell's internal resistance, those spikes fall within the expected window and the trip threshold is no longer breached.

Terminal won't power on after sitting unused in a drawer

Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly over time. A terminal left unused for several months can drop below 2.5V per cell — the threshold where most BMS circuits lock the output to prevent damage. The terminal appears completely dead and won't respond to the power button. Connect the terminal to its dock charger and leave it for at least 90 minutes without pressing anything. Most charge ICs include a trickle-charge recovery mode that brings the cell back above 3.0V per cell, at which point the BMS releases the lock and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The charge indicator on my M4230 has been stuck at 99% since I put in the new battery — is the battery actually charging?

Yes, it is charging. The M4230's charge IC enters a top-off mode on a new cell, which holds the display at 99% while it delivers a low finishing current. This is normal behaviour and not a fault. Leave the terminal on the dock until it steps down to the maintenance stage — the indicator will drop to and then hold at 100% once the cycle completes.

My M4230 terminal won't get past the PCI boot sequence after I installed the replacement battery — it just loops at the startup screen.

The PCI boot sequence on these terminals includes a power-rail check, and if the BMS hasn't completed its initial handshake with the terminal's charge controller, the boot process stalls as a precaution. Remove the battery, reinsert it firmly until you hear the latch click, then place the terminal on the dock for at least 10 minutes before powering on. That gives the charge IC time to initialise the cell and pass the rail check so the boot sequence can proceed normally.

The M4230 gets noticeably warm during a busy period of back-to-back transactions — is that a battery problem?

Warmth during heavy use is normal on this platform. The terminal is simultaneously driving the display, the wireless radio, and the printer motor, and the combined draw heats a compact Li-ion cell quickly. The BMS has a thermal cutoff rated above the temperature reached under normal transaction load, so it won't trip unless something else is wrong. If the terminal feels hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the battery contacts are clean and that the battery door is fully seated — a loose connection increases resistance and generates additional heat.
