Fits Verizon Stratosphere i405 and replaces OEM part EB505165YZ, EB505165YZBSTD, EB505165YZBS.
3.7V lithium-ion cell rated 1500mAh — delivers the voltage and capacity the Stratosphere i405 fuel gauge expects on startup.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot; no locking tab, just firm seating against the contact springs inside the door.
We ran the pack on a standard discharge bench at 0.5C load — BMS accepted the cell without cutoff, voltage curve tracked normal li-ion discharge slope.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC recalibrates against the new cell discharge curve before high-current charging.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Verizon Stratosphere i405 / SCH-i405 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (EB505165YZ)

This is a 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion cell for the Verizon Stratosphere i405 and SCH-i405 smartphone. It also fits the Stratosphere 4G and Stratosphere 4G LTE variants. Voltage and footprint match the original Samsung-sourced cell at 64.40 × 50.90 × 5.00mm.

  • Stratosphere i405 and SCH-i405 compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V nominal rail, and EB505165YZ connector pinout — so the same cell covers the full Stratosphere lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and load discharge on the Stratosphere platform. The BMS accepted charge handshake without fault codes, and voltage held stable across display and modem draw.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve before drawing high current into an uncalibrated cell.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Stratosphere i405

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity problem. Under combined modem and display load, cell voltage drops faster than the fuel gauge IC predicts — the phone shuts off before the reported percentage reaches zero. It happens most on fresh cells where the coulomb counter is still calibrated to the old, degraded cell curve. One full discharge-charge cycle with the screen on normalises the IC's curve. After that cycle, shutdowns below 20% should stop.

Phone not powering on after the battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If voltage drops below 2.5V per cell, the BMS trips a lockout to prevent damage and the phone will not respond to the power button. Connect to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing anything. The charge IC needs to trickle current past the lockout threshold before the BMS re-initialises and allows normal boot. Once the charging indicator appears on screen, the BMS has cleared.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Stratosphere i405 shows 25% battery and then shuts off without warning — is that a faulty cell?

Not necessarily faulty — this is a voltage cliff. Under combined screen and LTE modem load, the cell voltage collapses faster than the fuel gauge IC tracks, so the phone cuts power before the percentage hits zero. The IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. Run one full discharge-charge cycle with the screen on and the fuel gauge will recalibrate. After that single cycle, the shutdowns at 20–30% should stop.

The battery percentage on my Stratosphere i405 keeps jumping around erratically after I put in the new cell — what's happening?

The coulomb counter in the fuel gauge IC learned the old cell's behaviour over hundreds of cycles. A new cell has a different internal resistance and discharge curve, so the IC's estimates are off until it re-learns. This shows up as percentage jumps — sometimes 10–15 points at once. Let the phone run one uninterrupted full discharge down to auto-shutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. That single cycle gives the IC enough data to anchor its model to the new cell.

My Stratosphere i405 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat unused in a drawer — how do I recover it?

Self-discharge during storage can pull the cell below 2.5V, which trips the BMS into lockout mode. The phone will not respond to the power button in this state. Plug directly into a wall charger — PC USB ports often lack the current to push past the lockout threshold. Leave it connected for at least 15 minutes without pressing any buttons. Once the charging indicator appears on the screen, the BMS has reset and the phone will boot normally.
