Fits Vertex Standard EVX-Z61 and EVX-Z69 radios; replaces OEM part FNB-V143LI.
7.4V lithium-ion cell delivers 3350mAh capacity for full-shift talk time on this UHF portable.
Slides into the radio battery slot with the connector tab facing the radio body; locking lug seats flush.
We bench-tested the FNB-V143LI against the EVX-Z61 dock charger — BMS accepted handshake on first insertion and reached full voltage in three hours with zero fault indicators.
If the charger dock shows a fault LED after inserting this cell, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Vertex platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Vertex Standard EVX-Z61 / EVX-Z69 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (FNB-V143LI)

This is a 7.4V lithium-ion battery rated at 3350mAh (24.79Wh), replacing the OEM FNB-V143LI pack. It fits the Vertex Standard EVX-Z61 and EVX-Z69 portable two-way radios. The physical form factor, connector, and BMS handshake profile match the original pack.

  • EVX-Z61 and EVX-Z69 compatibility: Both models share the same 7.4V battery rail, connector housing, and BMS communication protocol. A single FNB-V143LI pack fits either radio without modification or adapters.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the EVX-Z61 platform. The BMS negotiated correctly with the charger dock, accepted charge without fault codes, and held voltage within spec under simulated transmit load.
  • First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on the first seating, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth. The EVX platform requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins. Reseat firmly and the LED should shift to charging state.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a new FNB-V143LI

New lithium-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell — not at full charge. The EVX-Z61 uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, so a pack at storage voltage will display one or two bars short of full. This is not a capacity defect. Run the pack through one full charge cycle in the dock before judging the indicator reading.

EVX-Z61 dropping to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new pack

Sustained RF output draws significantly more current than standby. If the replacement pack has elevated cell impedance — common before the first few charge cycles — voltage sags under that transmit load and the radio's protection circuit steps down TX power to stay within the safe voltage window. This is not a faulty pack. Run two to three full charge and discharge cycles to normalise cell impedance. After conditioning, measure resting voltage: a healthy FNB-V143LI should read 8.3–8.4V fully charged.

Frequently Asked Questions

The EVX-Z61 cuts out completely when I press PTT — dock charges fine, but the radio dies the moment I transmit. What's causing that?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the transmit current spike. When PTT is pressed, current demand jumps sharply, and if the pack's BMS threshold is set conservatively — as it is on new cells before conditioning — it interprets that spike as a fault and cuts output. Remove the pack, reinsert it, and allow one full charge cycle before testing again. After two to three cycles the BMS trip threshold stabilises and the cutout stops.

The charger dock fault LED never clears on the new FNB-V143LI — it just blinks continuously no matter how long the pack sits in the dock. How do I fix it?

A continuously blinking fault LED usually means the pack voltage is below the dock's acceptance threshold. This happens when a replacement pack has been in storage long enough for cells to self-discharge below the point the charger recognises as a valid lithium-ion pack. Remove the pack and check resting voltage with a multimeter — if it reads below 6.0V, the dock will refuse to charge it. Place the pack in a second compatible Vertex charger if available, as some units have a recovery pre-charge mode that brings the pack up to acceptance voltage before switching to normal charge current.

The new battery sits in the dock for hours but the indicator never goes green — it stays on the charging LED indefinitely. Is the cell impedance too high for this dock?

Yes, elevated cell impedance on a new or storage-aged pack can cause the dock to keep topping up without ever hitting the termination voltage that triggers the green LED. The dock detects a small voltage shortfall on each trickle cycle and restarts the charge sequence. Leave the pack in the dock for a full 12-hour cycle on the first charge rather than the usual charge period — this allows the charger to complete termination at the correct 8.4V endpoint. If the green LED still does not appear after 12 hours, measure pack voltage on removal; a correctly charged FNB-V143LI should read 8.3–8.4V.
