Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BearCom BC250D — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 7.4V, 3350mAh lithium-ion battery fits the BearCom BC250D handheld two-way radio. It replaces the original pack when capacity has degraded or the battery no longer holds a charge through a full shift. Voltage and cell chemistry match the BC250D's power rail exactly.
- BC250D platform fit: The BC250D uses a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture with a BMS that validates voltage and impedance on insertion. This pack matches that handshake — the radio powers on and accepts the pack without triggering a fault state.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack under simulated PTT loads, including sustained transmit bursts. The BMS held voltage above the radio's low-power threshold throughout and did not trip the overcurrent cutoff during high-draw transmit events.
- First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The BC250D's dock needs a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
Why the BC250D drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery
A new Li-ion pack ships at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not the full 4.2V per cell of a charged pack. The BC250D monitors bus voltage under transmit load, and if voltage sags below its threshold during a PTT burst, the radio cuts RF output to protect the final stage. This is not a faulty battery — it is a cell that has not yet been fully charged. Charge the pack fully in the dock before first use in the field.
BC250D bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected after swap
The BC250D uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar maps to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage will land in a lower band and display one or two bars even though the cells are not depleted. This causes unnecessary concern on a first insertion. Run one full charge cycle and the indicator will read correctly at the top band once the pack reaches 8.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions
The BC250D cuts out completely when I press PTT — is the new battery causing this?
A PTT press pulls a sharp current spike as the transmitter fires. If the pack's BMS detects a current draw above its overcurrent threshold in that first instant, it trips and disconnects the cell — the radio goes dark mid-key. This usually happens on the first few cycles before the cells have conditioned. Charge the pack fully, then key up briefly two or three times to let the BMS learn the load profile before sustained use.
My charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging the new BC250D battery — what's wrong?
The dock is rejecting the pack because the BMS handshake failed, almost always due to contamination on the gold contact strip. Remove the battery, wipe all contact points on both the pack and the dock with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. If the fault LED persists, the pack may have dropped below the dock's acceptance voltage during storage — place it in a known-good charger or a compatible universal Li-ion charger set to 7.4V to bring the cells above the 6.0V recovery threshold, then return it to the dock.
The BC250D transmits fine at the start of a shift but audio gets choppy and TX power drops after a few hours — battery or radio?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a radio fault. As the cells discharge, internal impedance rises and voltage drops more sharply under transmit load. The BC250D's protection circuit pulls back TX power when bus voltage dips below its threshold. Check the bar indicator — if it reads two bars or fewer when the drop-off starts, the pack is genuinely depleted and needs a swap. If it reads three or four bars and still sags, wipe the contacts and reseat; a poor contact raises effective impedance and mimics a weak cell.
