Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Icom IC-F3001 / IC-3101 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BP-265)
This is a 7.4V, 3350mAh lithium-ion replacement for the Icom BP-265 battery pack. It fits the IC-3101, IC-4101, IC-F3001, IC-F3002, and over a dozen additional Icom handheld transceivers that share the same BP-265 form factor and connector. Capacity is 3350mAh (24.79Wh), matching the original pack specification.
- IC-3101 / IC-F3001 platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, gold contact strip layout, and BMS handshake protocol. One pack covers the full BP-265 footprint across professional and recreational Icom handheld lines without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and transmit cycles on an IC-F3001. The BMS handled the PTT transmit current spike without tripping overcurrent cutoff, and the charger dock accepted the handshake within one charge cycle.
- First insertion into the charger dock: If the dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reseating. The Icom charger platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging will begin.
IC-F3001 charger dock fault LED after BP-265 swap
New BP-265 packs ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell, not the 4.2V per cell a full charge would show. Some Icom dock chargers check cell voltage at first contact and throw a fault LED if the reading falls outside their expected window. This is a dock-side voltage threshold response, not a defective pack. Wipe the contacts, reseat the battery firmly, and the dock should begin a normal charge cycle. If the fault LED persists, allow the pack to warm to room temperature and retry.
Bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected on a new BP-265
The IC-3101 and IC-F3001 use a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage calculated by a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage sits in a lower band and will display one fewer bar than a fully charged cell. This is not a capacity fault. Run a full charge cycle first — the dock green LED confirms completion — then check the indicator. At full charge the cells should read above 8.3V across the pack and the indicator will reflect that.

Frequently Asked Questions
My IC-F3001 cuts out completely when I press PTT — is this the new BP-265 pack?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by the transmit current spike when PTT is pressed. On a new pack, the BMS trip threshold can be more sensitive until the cells complete a few full charge and discharge cycles. Check that the gold contact strip on both the battery and the radio bay are clean and making full contact — a high-resistance connection increases effective current draw and can trigger the cutoff at a lower load. Run two full charge cycles and retest; the BMS will settle after the cells have been properly conditioned.
The radio drops to noticeably weaker TX output mid-shift even though the battery indicator still shows bars — what's happening?
This is voltage sag under sustained RF output load. During extended transmission, internal cell resistance causes the pack voltage to dip below the radio's full-power threshold, so the IC-3101 steps down transmit power to protect the circuit — even if the bar indicator hasn't changed yet. The bar indicator only updates at voltage thresholds between transmissions, so it can lag behind what's actually happening under load. If this appears on a new pack before the first few cycles, run a full charge, allow the pack to reach room temperature, and retest under normal PTT intervals.
The Icom charger dock has been on the new BP-265 for over 12 hours and never switched to a solid green — what do I check?
A dock that never reaches green usually means the cell voltage started below the dock's acceptance threshold and the charger is running a recovery trickle charge, which takes longer than a standard cycle. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly to ensure the BMS handshake completes cleanly. If the dock still shows a non-green status after reseating, check that the dock power supply is delivering the correct voltage — a failing adapter can stall the charge sequence. After a clean reseat with a confirmed power supply, most packs will clear to green within a standard charge window.
